Character Introduction: Neve Merka

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

Neve is an elf hailing from distant frozen wastelands, a snow elf from the icy mountain towers of Tessia.

Her people gave up light and warmth for territories uncontested, for a cold peace that they whiled away in their crystalline towers, unmolested, all but forgotten to those who lived in sun-kissed lands.
It is said that the cold blanched their hearts and skin, though their eyes and hair are more akin to darkest night.

Growing up without a mother, her father cared for her and her siblings, and often told them grand tales in the long nights. She had a favorite tale about a Wolf totem gifted to her people by a tribe long ago.
Perhaps driven by this tale as she grew, she began to seek a deeper bond with nature...

As she grew, and alongside her, the fascination with the small things that clung to life in the desolate tundras, she became ever less inclined to seek and preserve abstract arcane lore, as was the way of her people.

Fortunately, they in turn saw in her a value still, and room for growth surely; for in her restless spirit was the chance to deepen ties with the outside world.

As she headed out into the wastes, further than ever before, the fierceness of the Wolf Spirit awoke in her, steeling her will and mettle exploration, guiding her footsteps it seemed towards a distant and ancient circle, and a druidic people who called those lands home.

So it was that Neve became a trainee emissary to her people, and deepen ties she did. She became a dedicated student of Druidic arts from the great circle near the borders of her lands, as she lapped up lore, arcane familiarity a gift of her ancestry, indeed the Spirit of the Wolf strode within her.

As she grew and gained the trust of the Druids, they knowing the likes of her people, confided in her a tale and a quest.

Prove her mastery of the land, and learn more of this world, and yet seek a text, an ancient tome of life and death stolen by one of their number some years ago. Since then poor fate rivalries and other emergences had kept their eyes turned away from the South, and they had few numbers to spare. However in recent months birds had whispered to the Small Circle of Druids about a blight and an affliction having taken root in some distant towns. The elders having their suspicions, implored Neve to investigate, and prove her value, by investigating on their behalf.
Neve accepted and headed out across the lands...

Unfortunately that is where we leave her for now...

The concept of "Living Characters"

Neve as a character is a great example of the beginning of what we would like to call "living characters" the idea being that once certain characters are logged, they may develop and change in game. For instance Neve has a list of items on her concept art page. If some of these items changed her appearance, or if she were to equip them, the character 'living art' may well be changed. Although these changes may be small, when a number of them are taken into account, it may be very interesting to be able to 'see these characters morph' as a result of 'in game experience'.

In general the approach used for Neve is one of creating a 'concept' for the character's appearance, this can be improved and embellished on in time, and by other members of the community, or the platform in general. Ultimately the player would still own their character, and its story, but the hope is that the journey may also now have potential to become something of a 'creative, collaborative one'.

Beyond introducing the concept for these characters, and perhaps in future a suggested 'upload framework', @DungeoneersGuild is unlikely to post a large number of these living characters, the hope is that players who have favorite main characters may opt to load characters themselves, tagging the guild, and letting us share and incentivize the gradual development of their characters. We had in mind an idea around building a "CustomCharacterCard" which could be a visual aid and quick reference for characters. The intention would be an overlay to the existing charactersheet, using a custom designed character card. For Neve we have made an example of this as below:

Just a note in general.

This is an ongoing experiment in collaborative story-telling.
Also just want to take a moment to acknowledge the role that Wizards has done in putting together a fantastic and accessible version of D&D, along with the IP which is theirs such as 5e mechanics, source books, and character sheets.

These are early days, and self paced, but all support is very much appreciated.

Sharing the love of role playing!
