🎮 Game Review: Red Obsidian Remnant 🎮
What is Red Obsidian Remnant? In Three Words a; Hack-and-Slash Rogue-like RPG. Found on Steam with a review score of over 90% being positive (out of 400+ reviews). While most of its popularity seems to be coming from the Chinese version, it looks like a somewhat hidden gem for the European/American market. It's currently for sale at 9 bucks.
Gotta Love Hack-and-Slash!
The hack-n-slash feeling of this game... O boy, do I love it! Quick and "slashy'' to the bone.
And with some amazing music that is! The Final Fantasy kind of sorts. This is also the core mechanic that makes the game so satisfying. If you are looking for an indepth game with a good story, this simply won't be the thing for you. However, if this is not a problem then there is plenty to look forward to!
As I briefly mentioned the game is a rogue-like, meaning perma death. But don't worry as there is still plenty of progress to be made. A skill tree is in place leveling up across your playthroughs, eventually making your runs a lot easier. Also, higher game modes are to be unlocked.
Enemies and Customization
Speaking of enemies, there is a lot of variation in their behaviour. Higher game modes not only give them more health and attack bonus, but also new abilities. For that matter, getting to know their routine and finding your way around different kind of combo's, can be a very effective and rewarding thing to do.
Three different weapons can be used at the same time by attaching them to different keys.
And although there is only a few weapon types, the different abilities make for quite a few of strategies, as the customization overall is pretty broad. Letting you decide whether you wanna play a more defensive or offensive kind of build.
Verdict
Eventually the game might become a little tedious and repetitive, I found a strategy that worked for me and after 20 hours or so finished the game. With still a lot of the skill tree to be unlocked. I doubt most people will be able to complete the hardest difficulty so soon though...
With all that being said, definitly worth the 9 bucks! I'll probably still come back to this game from time to time, just for the feeling it provides, perhaps try a little different style.
O, and did I mention a co-op mode and PvP update is coming ahead?
