The war of the consoles has been going on for years on end, with the creators trying to get the edge on one another and the players constantly trying to argue why said console is better than the other.
There are a lot of retro consoles due to the amount of companies that used to create consoles whereas now it has really come down to two main companies Microsoft and Sony.
I personally play on PlayStation because I have always had the consoles so I’m simply more used to it, though I do also enjoy to play on Xbox.

With this generation of consoles PS4 won the battle by a long way boasting just over 40 million console sales with Xbox coming in quite a way behind with only just over 20 million. With this defeat for Xbox they have realized they need to step up their game to recoup their loses, which I don’t they have shown yet.

The full next gen for consoles aren't coming out for at least a year, however there is a new and improved versions of the current consoles; for Xbox it’s the One S and for PlayStation the Pro.

What is stronger the Pro or the One S

When it comes to comparing the two I don’t really think they should be compared because the PS4 pro is more of a complete overhaul of the console with more being changed and updated, whereas the One S is more of a slight improvement similarly to the PS4 slim.

Which of the slim consoles is better:

They are both 40% smaller and have slightly improved processing power so the quality is a little better and the console as a hole should run a bit faster, they also have options for more memory.

The One S also has 4k ultra HD and 4k blue ray system, however you can’t actually play any games in true 4k.

Other than that there isn’t really any changes from the old systems. Out of the original PS4 and Xbox One the PS4 was the stronger console for gaming, though I do think that this upgrade adds slightly more to the Xbox which brings it up to the same level as the PS4 slim.

What's next?

PS4 Pro:

The PS4 pro is next up for Sony, it is coming out November 10th of this year and it looks like it is going to be a very strong console.

The pro has improved memory going from 500GB to 1TB.

The Pro shares the same CPU as the original PS4, however the Pros version is said to be faster.

The GPU has upgraded to an Integrated AMD Polaris graphics with 4.2 teraflops of performance, upgraded from a 1.84 teraflops. This means the GPU can perform a lot more processes per second than the prior, allowing much stronger graphics.

The Pro is also said to support 4k, although it is likely you won’t be playing games in true 4k, similarly to the One S.

Having these specs means undoubtedly the Pro will be the best console on the market at this time. If you are going to upgrade you console or buy one for the first time the best one you will get this year is the PS4 Pro. The Pro is the fastest performing console with the best graphical capabilities of any console out.

Project Scorpio:

Earlier I said that Xbox needs to step up their game and this Project Scorpio is how they say they will do it, the project was announced this year at E3. Microsoft claim that it will be the most powerful console ever made and it will come out towards the end of next year, other than this all we really no is that it will support 4k and they plan to add high end virtual reality.
(Gaming on high end virtual reality is something very interesting, I won’t cover it hear but if you are interested in VR check out my previous post.)

Even though this isn’t much to go on it sounds like project Scorpio could be amazing and I know I will be looking out for any updates. Talks of a new console or next gen console usually don’t happen until a few months before the release, it seems strange for Microsoft to make these announcements so early but I don’t think anyone really knows the reason.

With this announcement coming so early it will be exciting to see how Sony responds, however I don’t think they will have much to say about a new console for a while because of the PS4 Pro coming out soon. They also don’t need to release any information soon because they have the upper hand with consoles this year, putting time on their side.

Cost:

Buying a console has never been cheap and the same is true with this generation;

The PS4 slim costs £249.00 and the Pro costs £349.00

The Xbox One S costs £249.00 and Project Scorpio has not been priced yet.

The issue with buying consoles at this price is that in the next year or so the next generation consoles will be coming out, which will wipe the floor with our current consoles. I personally would love to upgrade to the PS4 Pro when it comes out, however it is hard to say weather it is worth buying a console for just a year; because we all know that when next gen comes out every one wants it the day it comes out.
