Microsoft Cracks Down on Halo Online in Wake of ElDewrito Release!
Halo Online: ElDewrito has had major success in the past week, no one would have expected the outcome that would soon follow with the release of the long anticipated 0.6 - except 343i and Microsoft who had released a press release regarding the game Halo Online and modding team ElDewrito.

Today we want to let our community know that Microsoft has initiated actions to protect its Halo intellectual property in the wake of the recent “ElDewrito” PC release.
The ElDewrito team is understandably upset at this outcome given the time they’ve each invested in this project, but they understand the legal implications and the need to press pause on this work.

Well as you can see in the quote above 343i and ultimately Microsoft have told ElDewrito's team to stop all developments and updates on the project. This does not mean that ElDewrito is completely abandoning their work as they will continue to host the servers that hold every player's information such as statistics and player ranks.
The community is what made Halo Online: ElDewrito what it is and from what I've seen in many social groups such as r/HaloOnline and Discord groups is that everyone is outraged but going to continue to support the game by actually playing it.
ElDewrito quickly responded to the community after we all heard about the news that 343i announced. Basically they say how they are not sure what direction this is leading to but encouraging everyone to continue playing the game that they made for us to play!
Unfortunately you're going to have trouble finding the download for Halo Online as Microsoft is cracking down on the asset files required to actually play the ElDewrito mod - maybe you can ask a certain someone who is usually found in the DLive and DUnite Discord Channels.
ElDewrito’s 0.6 update has been everything we could have hoped for and so much more. The community response and support we have been given has been exciting, humbling, above all, appreciated. We have poured our hearts and souls into this game, and you have been the best community we could have asked for.
Unfortunately, 343 Industries and Microsoft have noticed it’s success, and have reached out to us regarding potential legal action, and have requested we temporarily halt development.
ElDewrito also supplied us with some cool statistics within 4 days of gameplay!

That's pretty unfortunate. I never played this mod but I can understand how frusturating it must be to have something like this stopped after all that hard work. Does microsoft actually support halo online anymore or was this mod the only way people could play it because that would be pretty disappointing if so.
The actual game Halo Online that was built by Sabre is finished, it was done with ages ago. But many groups of people including ElDewrito picked up the game Halo Online and started to develop a mod for it.
But because Halo Online and the assets belong to Microsoft they are cracking down on all the downloads of the original files. ElDewrito isn't in trouble at all, this just makes it harder for people to download and play. The community always finds a way to beat the system, I'm playing right now but we will see how it goes a week from now.

wow, I was just going to download this...halo is butt now. Make us a better game this year or get out of the way!
