Three months ago, Call of Duty: WWII appeared for the PC and consoles. With this part the series returned to the Second World War, and the sales figures and reactions from the fans show that this was a good move. Now the game gets its first addition that focuses on the resistance. This DLC is therefore very appropriately called 'The Resistance'.

Valkyrie, Occupation and Anthropoid

The Resistance DLC pack contains three new multiplayer folders. This concerns Valkyrie, Occupation and Anthropoid. The first takes place on the site of the heavily secured Wolfsschanze base. The name of the map is derived from the eponymous operation in which German officers tried to commit an attack on Hitler. This small map is full of bunkers, and there are plenty of opportunities to hide in the paths between them. As a result, Valkyrie focuses on fast action up close, making it extremely suitable for SMGs and shotguns. The location comes into its own in teams such as Team Deathmatch and Hardpoint. This is the big highlight in terms of maps in my opinion. Occupation is a remake of the folder Resistance from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and it also passed as a remake in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It should be clear that this folder is popular among fans. That is because it is well balanced. All weapons are good to use here and the environment is well designed. There are plenty of places to take shelter and all modes work perfectly on this map.

The last map is Anthropoid, which takes place in the winter Prague. This was especially known during the war because of the attack on the Reichsprotector, Reinhard Heydrich. This was trapped during a ride through the city, after which an anti-tank grenade was thrown against his car. Anthropoid is separated by a channel and contains many buildings, long streets and difference in height. As a result, the danger can come from all sides, which is both a plus and a drawback. Where you are safe in some places in some places, this is much less the case, especially in the middle of the map. Because of the frequent use of snipers and assault rifles and the open areas Anthropoid can feel a bit chaotic. As an easter egg, the inflated car of Heydrich can be found together with his corpse lying under a blood-covered sheet.

Operation Intercept

In addition to the three multiplayer maps, a new folder is added to the popular War mode. In this mode, teamwork is central, and although we have seen this kind of modes with other shooters, it is excellent at Call of Duty: WWII. In Operation Intercept, the Allies must first open two prison doors and then help two French resistance fighters escape from each cell. Then radio equipment must be destroyed in a broken house. The last objective is to escort a tank to a train station where a freight train is about to leave. Of course, the German team has the objective to prevent this. Operation Intercept has the highest speed of all War maps and plays nicely away. It is only a pity that the goals are recycled after the first. We have already seen the destruction of radio equipment and escorting a tank. It would have been more interesting with the resistance theme, for example, to have to abduct a German general or to disable a number of tanks. Maybe for the next DLC pack?

The Darkest Shore

The new zombie map is called The Darkest Shore and begins with the four heroes, who end up on a beach with a rubber dinghy. Soon the zombies rise from a blood-red sea and can be blown again richly. The beginning feels fresh because you spend the first rounds on the beach where a number of MG42's are located. Later you end up in bunkers and corridors. The Darkest Shore is somewhat spicier than the first folder. This is because you do not get any clues and there is a lack of time every so often, resulting in a sharp drop in vision. Despite the fact that this will not be appreciated by all players, it makes The Darkest Shore a lot more exciting and there is still more to work as a team. Furthermore, a mine cart can quickly travel from A to B, provided the power is switched on.

Conclusion

The Resistance is a great first DLC pack for Call of Duty: WWII. Players get two good multiplayer maps in the form of Valkyrie and Occupation, and a little less with Anthropoid. The War-map Operation Intercept is playing great thanks to the somewhat higher tempo. It is only to be hoped that some new objectives will be devised for the next folder. Fans of the zombies continue to enjoy themselves well with The Darkest Shore which is a lot grimmer due to the fog and the new zombie.

The plus and minus points

✔ Valkyrie and Occupation
✔ Cute War-map...
✔ The Darkest Shore
✖ Anthropoid sometimes a bit chaotic
✖ ...but goals predictable
