Ive spent money on systems before just to get a game I really wanted. From a marketing standpoint and most likely a overall company profits standpoint it makes 100% sense.
However I am VERYYY glad to see Destiny 2 will be released on PC in September I look forward to that greatly as I rather play shooters and most games on my PC.
I am in the same boat, bought the Xbox 360 for the Halo games and ended up selling it again for a $50 profit a couple of years later, Shooters on PC are much easier and precise rather than 'General Aim-assist' areas, Although there are definitely games that play better with controller (like Rocket League) so I always keep a controller nearby. That's awesome to hear Destiny 2 will be released on PC, I've wanted to play Destiny since the first game, however never actually got around to it since it was console exclusive so I'll be looking forward to playing that come September!
