Why Majora’s Mask is my favorite Zelda video game

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)
Recently the video game Majoras Mask was released in a 3D version. Previously, I wrote a post How Zelda changed my life in which I talked about The legend of Zelda Ocarina of time specifically, however, in this post I will tell you why Majora's Mask is my favorite videogame of Zelda.

I'm a storytelling lover. Give me an exceptional story and I'll be hooked from start to finish. This game is revolutionary, deep, makes you think on multiple occasions and causes you to play it again and again. For many gamers, Ocarina of time is the best video game in history, overcome it seems an IMPOSSIBLE task, but in my opinion, Majora's Mask did it.

The game has a lot more impact if you previously played Ocarina of the time, since chronologically Majora's Mask is located after this one.

Majora's Mask has a simple but engaging initial plot, the young Link as a wandering traveler encounters the skull kid, this playful friend dares to steal your precious ocarina and divest you from your only company, the faithful Epona this makes the game super personal, after a confrontation with the character, the skull kid with the help of the mysterious mask turns you into what you never thought you could become, a Deku.

Then, in the pursuit of this curious villain, you end up in the Clock Town, where the phrase "Small town, big hell" never made more sense. The skull kid has managed to bewitch the moon so that against its will it directs its course to collide with the earth in exactly 3 days (date of the carnival). YOU, you are the only person in the world capable of avoiding it.

The interesting thing is that the story of the skull kid is also very well developed, here is a video that was recently made in homage to the video game and briefly explains the story of this villain.

Outstanding stories:

The stories of each of the different versions of Link (Zora, Deku, Goron) are tragic, but thanks to you, they have an opportunity to be strong and heroic once again, and this allows the gamer more playability. But here, I will talk about those secondary stories that in my opinion deserve recognition in this game:

1. Explosive Granny:

heroic act by definition, help a defenseless old woman. During the first day, when entering the northern sector during 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., the old woman from the explosives shop embarks on a business trip (a weird time for an elderly woman to travel alone) meanwhile, a dirty thief who has been hiding all day waiting for this moment, he dares to snatch the heavy travel bag, in your hands is to rebuke the criminal and the sweet old woman rewards you with an explosive mask.

This story is interesting because you as a player know that the thief is there for that reason, and it causes impotence not to take any action until the moment of the act, and it is curious that the thief knew about the journey of the old woman, suggesting a kind of fraud. In this city two stores in the shop of the grandmother is a corrupt store that redeems for money any kind of artifacts regardless of their origin; not all are good here.

2. Romani and Cremia:

In Romani ranch a singular phenomenon occurs, the cows disappear mysteriously and the smallest of the place, Romani, has witnessed something extraordinary, according to her, the cows have been… ABDUCTED BY ALIENS, that's right; her older sister, Cremia, does not believe this absurd story, so, at the beginning of the second day she is sadly surprised to notice the disappearance of her younger sister who has suffered the same fate as the cows.

All this you can avoid and at the end of everything discover who are the true cause of so much misery and their greedy reasons for this wrongdoing.

3. Kafei and Anju:

The tragedy of the wedding that never took place. To enter matters of the heart is always complicated and even more so in this complex plot. Kafei is the son of the rulers of the city, on the other hand, Anju oversees the hotel, (by the way, Anju’s grandmother is the best, the old lady who reads stories) the wedding was suddenly canceled by the groom, who even loving her was isolated from the world due to a terrible spell that changed his appearance.

This is the plot and the most complicated sequence to make, but without a doubt the most satisfying, you can see the emotion through this love story and the determination of these two lovers to fulfill their mission no matter if the world ends or not.

4. Pamela and her father:

In Ikana canyon there are plenty of ghosts and mummies, there are only two people alive in the area, Father and Daughter live in the central house, but mysteriously only the little girl leaves the house (if there aren't ghosts nearby) also leaves the house if she hears a bomb explode. When she is away enough from the house, you may enter, down the stairs you will find a closet and approaching a semi-mummy comes out of the closet, literally speaking, it turns out that is Pamela’s father, a mummified scientist by his own supernatural experiments, a workaholic, the only way to help him is to heal his heart...
The answer is to play the song of healing.

Then, you witness a beautiful father and daughter scene, the daughter behaves like the adult telling him that he only had a bad dream, that he hasn’t done anything wrong.

Leaving the message of a father addicted to work that completely sacrifices the innocence and childhood of his own daughter by exposing her to an extremely harmful environment. But, above all, the love of a daughter who protects and loves her father unconditionally.

5 .Goron Lullaby

In comparison to Ocarina of the time, Gorons went from the heat of death mountain to the extreme cold. In the Goron Shrine, there is the heir of the entire Goron village, the cruel reality is that it is a baby who cries for his father, because he misses him; hanging around (or should I say rolling around) in the outskirts you can find his father who is frozen, with the help of the bottles you can manage to thaw him, the father is an old man, one very dazed and disturbed by the cold.

He is moved when he hears that his son misses him, but he is too busy to go see him, then he takes out his best instruments (a portable drum) to show you the lullaby song so that little Kraken may sleep.

Old Goron, no matter how hard he tries, can’t show you more than just the beginning of the song, claiming he didn’t forget it, but it's too cold to play it.

When you return to the Goron Shrine and you interpret the beginning of the lullaby, baby goron reacts immediately, he stops crying and excited, complete with his melodious voice, the song of his father and suddenly as if by magic falls asleep and says it is like his father was there.

Each one of the stories are profound and show many emotions, the messages of this video game are extremely relevant to life itself.

Reflections:

The biggest enemy of this game, in addition to the Majora's mask, is... TIME. Which is very realistic, help and complete the cycles of the stories that previously relate is IMPOSSIBLE to do it simultaneously, since many of these events occur in them timeslots. So, if you do one thing you stop doing another, we cannot help everyone at the same time. The puntuality also an important factor, if you missed an event due to unpunctuality you must repeat EVERYTHING again, which exercises patience.

Through these stories, we get messages of love, family, leadership, friendship, and many more lessons that make this game a jewel.

Even at the end of the game SPOILER ALERT Leaves you with incredible reflections, when entering the moon that is horrible on the outside, the interior, in contrast, is a utopian world in which there are children wearing the masks of the BOSSES of the temples that you have already won. They want to play with you the hidden ones after finding them, one by one, they ask you questions that undoubtedly BREAK the fourth wall, they are directed to you as a player.

First question:
Your friends…
what kind of… people are they?
I wonder…
Do those people… Think of you… as a friend?

Second question:
You…
What makes you… happy?
I wonder…
What makes you happy…
Does it make… others happy, too?

Third question
The right thing… What it is?
I wonder…
If you do the right thing…
Does it really make…
Everybody… happy?

Fourth question
Your true face…
What kind of… face is it?
I wonder…
The face under the mask…
Is that… your true face?

I think I've told you too much, so I will not tell you the end of the game, although probably if you're reading this, it's because you played it.

To remove that bad taste of tragedies, I'll leave you with an interpretation sponsored by our Steemit friend, the great @gabrielsotillo
