Hello again friends, and welcome to Community Casino’s second ‘how-to’ post.

Today we’re going to go through how to play blackjack and some of the terms you may hear that might be unfamiliar.

Of all the card games, blackjack makes me the most anxious.

The first time I played was in a little casino in Palm Springs.

My friend - an accountant who loves blackjack - and I sat at a table all by ourselves.

We played a few hands, enough for me to start enjoying myself, even if I was making a complete fool of myself at the same time.

A man came and sat to my right. And proceeded to criticize my play even after we explained that I was brand new and just learning.

He got SUPER pissed when I … shit, I don’t even know WHAT I did ... but he slammed his hands down, cussed me out under his breath and stormed off! So I've been a little nervous every time I play from then on lol.

gamblers, amirite??

Let’s go over the rules, and I’ll let you know which rule will be different for ‘Community Blackjack’ as opposed to ‘Regular Blackjack’.

Object:

To beat the dealer by getting your cards as close to 21 as possible, without going over 21.

Each card has a number value. 2-9 are self explanatory.

Ace can either be a 1 or an 11. Player gets to choose.

Jack, Queen and King are 10.

For instance, I have a Queen and a 5. That equals 15 points, you see?

Betting:

Here’s the quote from http://www.bicyclecards.com/how-to-play/blackjack/ in regards to betting in ‘Regular Blackjack”. Community Blackjack will not have rounds of betting.

Before the deal begins, each player places a bet, in chips, in front of him in the designated area. Minimum and maximum limits are established on the betting, and the general limits are from $2 to $500.

“Natural” “21” “Blackjack”

This means you have an Ace and a 10 point card… the number 10 or a ‘face card’ (Jack, Queen, King).

To Play:

The player to the left of the dealer goes first in Regular Blackjack. We will go first-come, first serve.

Each player has to decide whether to “stand” - get no more cards, or ‘hit’ to try to get closer to 21. You can ‘hit’ as many times as you want, as long as you don’t go over 21 = ‘bust’.

If you bust, you lose.

That goes for each player in order.

Dealer’s Play:

After all the other players choose to ‘stand’, the dealer turns her face down card face up. If her total is 17 or more, she must stand. If it’s 16 or under, she must take a card. Dealer hits until her total is 17 or more.

There are the basics of Blackjack!

If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask. If I don’t know, I’ll do my best to find out!

I’ll post another article tomorrow evening that will go through the rules of Community Blackjack, and

Look for the game to go live Monday, 11 AM PST!

See you then!

i remember my mother was first time in casino and while we played with brother poker she was drinking and gave some advices to other people, there was some russian businessman in spain he betted like `3k euro each time and he didnt know rules, my mother explained to him: here you have 3 hearts you need to take more cards because its almost flush, i think that guy lost like 50k before switching to roulette :)

hahahaaa oh wow! what a fun memory, thanks for sharing. My mom taught me how to play poker, too, before she passed away, so I have extra love for the game myself. ;)
