Beldum Community Day

Today was the monthly Community Day on Pokémon GO. It ran for 3 hours during the usual times again. This month featured the Steel and Psychic type Pokémon Beldum! With the Shiny form of Beldum added to the game too. Evolving it into Metagross during the event, or up until 1 hour after the event, gave Metagross the Charged Move "Meteor Mash". Which is a Steel-type attack with two charge bars and 100 damage. Much better than it's other Steel-type Charged Move option which is "Flash Cannon" that also has 100 damage but only 1 charge bar so it takes much longer to charge.

Before the event started I checked my Pokédex and saw that I had caught (and hatched) 14 Beldum so far. When I arrived at the usual spot I start at close to home I immediately ran into a few people I often take a Gym with in the Eeveening. I talked with them for a bit while catching the Beldum there. Then I started walking around with one friend. The others were going to mostly stay around those spots and not walk around as far as we would. After around noon, so one hour into the event, we ran into a couple of my friends from school again. They had both caught some Shiny already. At that point I didn't come across one yet.

Just moments after coming across them again they continued towards the city park that we had just been to. We continued walking too, and the next Beldum I saw was a Shiny for me! Later during the day we came across them a few more times. At one point we once again stopped to talk for a little bit and check up on the amount of Shinies we all had caught. Which was still 1 for me. And that did the trick for me again. As when they and we departed ways again I came across another Shiny Beldum, even two actually as there were several Beldum there and two of them turned out Shiny!

Those 3 Shiny Beldum were all the Shinies I managed to get this event. It really seems to fluctuate a lot how many Shinies I get during each Community Day.

Registering Shiny Metang and Metagross in Pokédex.jpg

I already had plenty of Beldum candy before the event. Over 200, so I could've had a Metagross for quite some time. I chose not to evolve a Beldum yet though as the highest I had was 91% IV. So when the event was over and we still had an hour to evolve Beldum into Metagross to get Meteor Mash I decided to evolve one of my Shiny Beldum first. This way the Pokédex registration screen shows the Shiny sprite at the moment of evolution.

While we were walking around we found a 694 CP Beldum with 96% IV. Max Attack and HP. The friend I was walking around with evolved it right away. I waited until after the event to get the Shiny registration screen. It was at 3002 CP right away when he evolved it! After the event was over I first traded we traded some high CP Beldum first. One of them became Lucky. For me it was a 96% IV one too with max Attack and Defense. So I made sure to evolve that one too.

I powered both of them up to like level 31 where they cost 6 candy to further power them up. They have around 3150 CP now. My candy left is now at about 100, down from around 900 I had at the end of the event. For many of the Beldum I also used a Pinap Berry to get some extra candies, which seems to have been a good idea, otherwise I wouldn't have had enough candy.

At the end of the event I checked my Pokédex again. It shows the Shiny sprite now too and has the Lucky background from getting a Lucky Beldum with a trade. I caught 168 Beldum now and saw 172. That means I managed to catch 154 Beldum during this Community Day! And 4 Beldum unfortunately ran away.

It was an amazing Community Day today! Glad to finally have Metagross now, and some good ones as well!

How has your Beldum Community Day been?

Sort:

I went out with my brother and my niece. For almost the whole thing I didn't get any shinies, I thought I was going to end up with none for the day. But then right before we left the park I caught two, and then got two more as we were headed home, so it all worked out for me in the end.

Oh yeah it can definitely feel like you'd end up with none then. Sometimes they can take so long to show up and then suddenly you get more than one too. I'm glad you've been able to get some shinies at the end too! :D

Did you like it that we now had up until an hour after the event to evolve Beldum to get the special move?

I actually forgot that was a thing while it was happening, so it didn't impact my thinking during the event. Actually, when we were in the car driving back to my brother's house it was about 1:58 (i.e. 2 minutes before the end of the event in my timezone) and my niece had caught two shinies with good IVs but seemed to be having trouble making up her mind about whether she wanted to evolve them. I thought she had already evolved them earlier, so I was a bit surprised that this was still an open question said something like "If you're going to evolve them you need to do it now to get the special move, you've only got two minutes left!" but then my brother reminded us about the extra hour thing. It was kind of amusing to realize I was getting worked up over nothing.

Oh yeah if you forgot about that I totally understand you'd get worked up over it. I have personal experience with it from the Bulbasaur Community Day. I started evolving the one Bulbasaur I wanted to evolve too late, it hit the hour mark during the evolution process to Venusaur and as the process finished after the hour mark it didn't have the move :(

I'm hoping it'll remain a thing now that we can evolve them up until an hour after the event to keep the move. As it would allow us to properly trade some and check their IVs without having to rush.
