[My Experience] Final Fantasy IV: Font Mod

in #gaming6 years ago

I played around with Final Fantasy mods last week, and I figured steemians would like to know my process.

Final Fantasy IV

It all started when I was going to uninstall some games from my computer to free space so I could download more games for my first impressions series. Just before uninstalling Final Fantasy IV I found that some achievements I have yet to obtain are still within my reach.

So I decided to achieve them before uninstalling it.

One thing led to another, I found myself researching the Final Fantasy series Mods.

In one of my early attempts I changed FFIV font from the practical-not-appealing font: "Arial" to a new one, this alone made the game look & feel fresh to me.

Font Name: Candara (Bold)

It's easy to install, you just have to backup the old file "arial" in FFIV execuatble directory, then put Candara there and rename the new font "arial.ttf" in place of the old file.

Fonts comparison: Arial (top) and Candara (bottom.)

The other good news is that this font works on FFV and FFVI too. I got it from one of FF6 mods. Also you can use any font but some fonts might not display numbers/symbols correctly.

I still find the NDS version better than steam version in many areas.

What do you think?

I also modded Final Fantasy VIII,
But that's a story for another day. (It's worth a post on its own.)

Final Fantasy games have a history of being hard to mod but this one looks pretty simple, I have modded a lot of stuff on final fantasy viii, especially since the Steem release that encouraged people to make more mods!

I'm actually writing a post on FFVIII modding right now, hope you see it when I finish it.

You know me, I'm over anything with the word final or fantasy or final fantasy on its title :^)
