Game Boy Color Game Airaki Released

in #games6 years ago

When it comes to the Game Boy the selection of independently developed and released titles is quite a mixed bag. Some games are simply stunning while others are, well, the Game Boy line was a great portable lineage wasn’t it? Airaki is one of those more interesting titles. Just check out the gameplay video below for a promising idea of what you are up against in this new Game Boy commercial release.

If you are familiar with Bejeweled, then you are already familiar with Airaki. Better if you are familiar with a newer iteration such as Puzzle Quest as you are fighting an enemy here. Moving the cursor around the screen highlights two icons and pushing the button swaps them. The basics of Bejeweled.

What helps Airaki stand out differently is that you are fighting bosses, eight total, and you can select three skills prior to embarking on your quest. Choose those skills carefully as they may or may not help you as you progress. Kind of like picking characters for your party in Dungeons and Dragons – you want a good mix but still find yourself in deep trouble.

Airaki is compatible with the Game Boy and Game Boy Color (and GBA). Airaki is an interesting release for the Game Boy platform considering this is a newer genre that is being backported here. Puzzle games do well on the small portable screens as there are few moving items that the player did not set in motion.

Airaki is a commercial release which means you will have to pay for it if you want to play it. There is currently no word on a digital release though so that means you will have to have a Game Boy, Game Boy Color, or Game Boy Advance to play Airaki. While some will claim this limits the market, it also limits piracy of the game.

Airaki is available on the Catskull Games website.

Wow, so they are still making games for the system? It's amazing how indie/small publishers are still developing games for SNES and GameBoy even in 2017.

This game looks like what Puzzles & Dragons would be in GBC.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, they are making games for this still? Are there any working consoles left? Why haven't these people upgraded to a Switch or at least a DS?

I think they mostly do so for fun, or for love for the system... A console is considered really dead when no one plays them anymore, if they added one game to the list it will delay it's death a bit.

Or maybe just to see the people like us say "How amazing They are!!"

Are there any working consoles left?

Yeah, and they're being sold for multiplies of their original prices. There are also unofficial versions that can run games exactly like the original do.

Wow, people love their retro gaming. Me, I loved them at the time, but I wouldn't be able to go back. I find it hard to look back with rose times glasses and forgive the shortcomings of the limited technology.

Check out www.pikointeractive.com, they are making new games for Genesis, SNES, Game Boy, Atari Jaguar, and many more. Some are ports we never would have seen otherwise. Others are brand new games and some are imports fixed up for American gamers. All legit, licensed, games.
