Magic: The Gathering Color Guide, part 4 - White
Magic: The Gathering is a very complicated game, and one of the hardest initial decisions is choosing which color or colors of cards to use in creating a deck. My prior posts are here, here, and here. Up next: White.
White stands for order and protection. White has perhaps the most significant presence of human creature cards, and can allow the creation of armies of knights and soldiers. Other characteristic white creatures include angels, cats, Kor, Kithkin (halflings/hobbits), griffins, and unicorns. Support cards can pacify your opponent's creatures, strengthen your own creatures, or protect your creatures from damage. White also tends more than any other color to offer life gain, restoring damage you have taken and requiring your opponent work harder to wear you down.
White decks often include evasion strategies, especially flying, whether as creature abilities or effects from other spells applied to creatures in play. Creature focus can tend toward low-cost "White Weenie" style, or build up to unleash powerful angels and giants who can turn the tide of battle.
White tends to bring order to strengthen the chaos of red when the two colors are combined in a deck. Green pairs with white to promote peace and growth. Blue and white work together to control the ebb and flow of the game. Black brings a certain stark brutality when combined with white, resulting in a powerful blend of destruction and protection.
White is the deck color for you if you like to play a combination of offensive and defensive strategies to bring order to the universe.
