FF14 is dumb, don't play it

in #games6 years ago

I realize that I have spent a long time telling everyone to take advantage of the price drop of FinalFantasy 14: a realm reborn but i realize after a few months of playing that this is not a good idea for most people.

As someone that has played MMO's since almost when they started to exist I can say that this one does a great job of luring you in. It does a great job of convincing you that something great is coming later, and then nothing changes.

This game, although adored by many is a simply stupid: You must run (unnecessarily) from whatever place to whatever other place ) in order to eventually accomplish some sort of quest thing that only results in you getting another quest that results in you likely getting the exact same thing given to you gain.

A vast majority of what you do will be one alone and even thous the reddit is absolutely filled with fanbois talking about how I am wrong about this I want you to understand that all of these fans are top level and doing things that you can not possibly do until you have played the game past it's horribly boring exterior.

I mean you will have to do "snatch quests" for 30 levels and that is just before i gave up. What this means is

  • go get this
  • bring it back to such and such person
  • they give you something new
  • take it to one of the other people involved in the silly chain
  • maybe fight something incredibly easy to kill that you could only lose if you were asleep
  • take whatever item and return it to the person that told you to do this thing in the first place.

Terrible. And that is what happens over and over and over again. It is not fun! Who TF ever thought that something like this would be fun?

Basically i want to tell everyone to NOT take part in this game. It is not a good game, there is not an active community, there are a few nice things to see from time to time but overall this game is just terrible and part of the reason why it is being phased out is because I think the management is very aware of the fact that people know it is not good.

I certainly hope that no one started to play this game because of my initial descriptions. While I still believe the music and animation is fantastic,.... this game as a whole is just terrible and certainly not worth spending a monthly fee on.

I feel like the final fantasy franchise has been dead for a long time. When they changed it after 10 from a single player to an MMO I gave up on them. I had been playing MMO’s for a long time at that point so I’m not against them (I was drawn into one of the first and best I’ve seen MMO’s, Ragnarok Online) but one of the whole purposes that people loved about FF was the single player, incredibly complex and rich story lines.

i need a new MMO (thanks for coming by - by the way) ... if you have a suggestion.. i am all ears. help me :P

The game I’m currently playing is a lot of fun it’s called Taichi Panda 3, have you heard of it? It’s addicting but I like it because it’s open world pvp, you can auto loot and the game is long and challenging. Let me know if you try it out, I can recommend a server and some stuff!

It’s also great as free to play, I haven’t spent any money and I’m rank 43 on our server out of like 800

Can you get a level boost in FF online? Many people have the same problem with World of Warcraft. They say you are just running errands for NPCs. Because of this, a lot of experienced players actually recommend that new players buy the latest expansion and get a level boost to 110. This allows new players to get in on what the old-school players consider to be "the fun part": raids, island expeditions, warfronts, etc.

I don't agree with this viewpoint because #1 it feels like cheating to me and #2 it looks to me like you skip a lot of interesting storyline if you do that. Still, I understand their point of view. I guess if I was so bored with the lower levels of WoW that I was thinking about quitting, I would get a character boost and skip it all.

Honestly though, this is why I play a MUD as my primary game. The whole idea of "run around and do errands for NPCs" is the basic model of MMOs. It's just the way they are. They have to make the game easy so they can have thousands of players and rake in cash. If they make it to where you might actually die or there might be a puzzle you can't solve, people will whine and quit the game and the company will go bankrupt after spending all that money on graphics.

The most popular MUDs have no more than 250 players online at the same time. But because they are so cheap to produce, they can concentrate on making the game fun for those 200+ players. They don't need to dumb the game down to get subscribers.

Still, I have found that playing AardwolfMUD as my only game just doesn't work for me. Sometimes I want to relax and play something easy. And sometimes I just want to hear music and enjoy walking around in a forest...or whatever. When I am in that kind of mood, walking around doing mindless errands for NPCs (like killing scorpions for scorpion venom so a nearby goblin can make poison and sell it, for example) is actually enjoyable.

The point is, you may want to consider either getting a level boost in FF (if there is such a thing) or else playing a more challenging, low-budget game.

if there are level boosts in FF i am unaware of them. I know they are so common in Guild Wars that they are pretty absurd. I think i have enough of them to level at least 10 new toons to max level immediately.

For me it isn't really even a question of "this is dumb to gain levels" so much as I don't really understand the point of it existing at all. There are tons of other ways to gain levels such as doing dungeons over and over (which is fun) but you can't access those dungeons until you go through the system of being granted access to them and hence, the NPC run-around.

I'll look into this MUD stuff as this is all a new thing for me. I am completely unaware of what it is.

Ahhh, if you decide to try AardwolfMUD, contact me from within the game. My character's name is Kristoff. I will be happy to answer whatever questions you have.

I played final fantasy so much when it was in the lower numbers. Such dazzling graphics and the game play was so much fun.

As the numbers grew and it moved itself towards mobile gaming, it seemed to get thinner and thinner. Flashy graphics and long cut scenes and no advancements in playability.

Then it seemed to switch entirely to japanimation and the same old thing. Haven’t paid attention in years.

I was hoping that one of them would stand out, or they would switch from FF23 to Final Fantasy Something and create a game that wasn’t simply the next cash grab with nothing new or better to offer.

This is not encouraging!

My sentiments exactly!

you are right. Unfortunately the gaming experience is being broadcast to the masses and for craps' sake I'm afaid all of us gamers are doomed. Thanks for your comment bro!

greetings my friends remember in play that played final fantasy hahahaha only gave a button and one passed the levels, which joke older .... Greetings and my respects.

I like your honest reviews. The gameplay is the most important part. Games from the past might look strange, and the graphics might be bad, but can still be fun to play.
