VRChat - Playing House & My Feelings On Realistic Rooms

in #gamersunited6 years ago

Hello Everyone

In one of my recent VRChat sessions, we went to less weird and creepy worlds, and instead went to some more comfortable worlds. It was like going over to someones house for a chill party. I met up with Chaotic and friends again, and we enjoyed exploring these virtual estates. I'll also explain some feelings I gained from this at the bottom of this post.

One of the first places we went to was a GTAV apartment. It was pretty much straight out of the game. It actually made me want to play some more GTAV online.

There was a bathroom and a working bathtub and shower. I decided to sing in the shower in hopes of earning some extra money ;]

After we were done hanging out in the apartment, we decided to check out another place. I have no idea what this place was from, but I'm sure it's based on something. It was a nice spacious modern house with lots of rooms.

The hot tub was a lie. When you go to enjoy it, you fall through the world and respawn back at the beginning. The pool worked though.

I found an avatar that I could use, which made a loooottttt of butterflies fly around me. I went in the hub with it later that night and I think I accidentally crashed people. Oops ^^;

In the yard outside of the house, there was a giant sword stuck in the ground. Next to that one, was a sword you could actually pick up and run around with. It was pretty hilarious seeing tiny avatar run around with a gigantic sword.

We also got some drawing time in. There were markers in the basement which drew weird dotted lines, but we made the best of it.

I really enjoy the realistic rooms, because I feel like your mind recognizes what you're looking at, and it helps you forget that you're just in a virtual world. I kept wanting to actually move my body to sit on a couch in the real world, but then I had to remind myself that there isn't actually a couch there.

I also felt a sense of comfort in the empty bedrooms, and wanted to lay down and relax there. I felt like I could decompress from my social anxiety, but I had to remind myself that there were people in the nearby area. It isn't like when you actually visit a real persons house. When you visit a virtual house, you help yourself to everything. You invade, and it doesn't really matter. You can throw things around, and not feel bad, because it doesn't matter.

Even though we were in this magnificent virtual world where we could do anything, we still chose to stand in the kitchen and eat virtual sushi, and do normal life things. It's really interesting to think about. You could go to your kitchen and make a sandwich, but it's 10x more fun to make one in VR. I'm not even sure I could explain those feelings.

I still haven't slept in VR, but a lot of people say it's actually really cool. I wonder what it would be like to lay down in a realistic bedroom, fall asleep, and wake up in a room that you don't recognize. I wonder if you started sleeping there a lot, if your own real-world room would seem mysterious to you?

There are so many interesting psychological experiences that go along with VR, and I want to experience a lot of them myself. I'll definitely write about them as I do. ^^

What sort of hardware setup do you have for VR? It’s something I’d love to get my hands on.

Not sure if you mean PC specs or VR hardware itself, so I'll kind of answer both. You definitely need a decent PC, especially if you're planning to play online, but I'm able to at least run it with my 960ti and a somewhat old cpu. I'll be upgrading to 1050/60 soon though, as I want my online experience to be better.

As for VR hardware, I'm using Oculus Rift with touch controllers and a 2 sensor setup at the moment, and it works perfectly for me in the small space that I have. You will most likely want a 3.0 USB card as well.

I hardly recommend not to buy the 1050 GTX because it isn't a real upgrade for you. Try to get your hands on at least a 1070 GTX. You need a lots of graphics ram and even with this card I get trouble trying to use multisampling in same games.

Don't get this wrong, 1050/1060 works fine with VR, but from your setup you are using right now, it isn't this good upgrade. Problem is the price at the moment.....i have buyed mine about a year ago, for about 400 Euro, today it costs 150 Euro more. I think because many miners use this card at the moment.

That's the exact reason I was getting a 1050, is because the miners have caused the price to be about 200-300 USD higher than it should be at the moment for 1070 or 1080. Even the 1060 jumps up by about 100 USD. Also, my current build isn't going to stay this way. I'll be getting a new motherboard and a new CPU in the near future, so it might be alright for now.

@zombiedoll: I like you, I like your content and I want to chat with you in VRChat, but please can you do me a favour?

I don't want to see you wasting your money, on a graphic card which doesn't have much more power than the current one you are using. Please wait until the prices go down and then buy a really great upgrade :3
