Haha sounds like the wife is keeping you in check with progress @roundbeargames as for particle effects like I said, yes sure they can look good but aren't needed to make a decent game, for example in super mario world there are no particle effects for basic jumps and adding them can look a little cheesy, in my opinion the jumping of the character looked better without the particle effects of dust and air.

i feel like visual feedback is important, for every detail. i tried to make the dust subtle that some people probably won't even notice them unless i point them out. but yea, i might play around with the transparency and size etc to make it natural and not stand out.
In the nes days you are correct but I was more on about on the SNES, for example on a sudden running break some dust is seen when mario turns, but everything is all very minimal, my only real point is kinda like your wife they aren't that important to make a basic good platformer game. Yeah man @roundbeargames never take my comments as this is what you should do, I am just giving you player feedback and a opinion.
yea man i see your point. i'm already working on other things, mainly player movements. i'll make another video tomorrow with all the updates. i'll remember not to overdo anything :)
I think we share similar tastes other than kimchi. The lunch box looks exactly like what I'd prefer to have. And how does the rounding pastries taste like?

You's got background detailing now for the game, it's really atmospheric. And the upper cut explosion effect is perfect.
Sometimes it's the little details that make the difference, I think you are quite right to concentrate on the particle effects. I'm looking forward to seeing some more video footage as your progress even further - this is a great journey in gaming.

this was only the second time i let her lose in the car. she was crazy at first, now she's a little more calm.
those lunchboxes are pretty good for the price :) i'm guessing somewhere around $3~5. and those pancakes are like simple bread with honey inside. back in the 90s they used to cost like a single cent, now it's like a quarter each.
i agree with you that details make all the difference! one by itself is barely noticeable but as a whole, it's night and day! but i think i'm gonna get back to coding the basic gameplay for now. i'll have time later on to focus down on every little particle effect.
i hope more gamedevs embrace steem and get paid sharing their progress! 👍
