Hi Steemians! Sometimes I play chess with my girlfriend or friends but a lot of people don't know how to play. Chess is a very good game for reflexion and logical.
Here are the basics rules and some tips for you if you want to learn chess.

Present the Game

As you can see there are two colors black and white. You always start to play with the white pieces. Each players begins the game with 16 pieces :
  • one king
  • one Queen
  • two rooks
  • two bishops
  • two knights
  • eight pawns

Pieces

The most important to the least important...

THE KING

Not the most powerful of the game but the most important. If you lose your king you lose the game. Displacements of the king are easy you can go forward, backward left or right. One square per turn.

the castling:
it's a movement you can do with tower and king when the squares between them are empty, because the king is safer in a corner rather than the center.

The black can do the castling short and the white the castling long.

Here are the results for black and white sides after castling.

Here you can't do the castling because your king must pass on the bishop's way (above) or on the knight's way (under).

You can't castling if your king is currently in check or if you previously moved the king or the choosen rook. The king can't go on a squre if it's in check!

THE QUEEN

One of the most important piece for me but sometimes you have to lose your queen to win a match. It can move from left to right, forward and backward and diagonally. It can't jump over another pieces like knight.

THE KNIGHT

The knight move by making a "L" of 3 squares. It's the only piece can jump over an other piece. With the knight you can turn your opposent mad because they are a lot of possibilities and sometimes I prefer to lose my Queen rather than my knight.

THE BISHOP

Can only move diagonally. One on the black square and the other on the light square. It can't jump over other pieces.

THE ROOK

It can move any number of squares along any rank. With the King, the rook is involved during the king's castling move.

THE PAWN

The pawn may move forward to the unoccupied square in front of it. On it's first move (and ONLY on the first) it may advance two squares (if they are unoccupied).
The paw capture the oppponent's piece on a square diagonally in front of it.
If you advance one of your pawns to the eight rank (the last) it's promoted and you can change it for an other piece (queen, rook...) there's no limit in promotion you can have 3 queens if you want.
The pawn never go back and can't capture backward.

the goal of each player is to place pieces and that the opponent has no legal move that could avoid taking the king on the next move. When a player succeeds, it is said that '' a mate '' the king of the opponent and won the game.

The game is won by the player who "MATE" his opponent or whose opponent declares he resigns.

Finale is always zero in the following cases.

  • King against King
  • King against King + Bishop or King against King + knight
  • King + bishop against king + bishop. Bishops evolving on same color diagonals.

Now you know the basics rules it's time to play. You can find a lot of strategies on the internet just ask google.
