This Caused a Fundamental Shift in My Mindset Today!

I have heard this idea briefly before by another intelligent speaker, but I didn't read too heavily into the idea.

It was kind of an offhanded comment at that time.

But here, as I was listening to Jordan Peterson, it had a much deeper impact.

An impact that resonated with me about more than just governmental structures and economic opportunity within a nation, but it also spanned to the ideas of Steem and its economy!

Equality of Opportunity vs. Equality of Outcome:

I have no idea why this is not talked about more often... It actually blows my mind that this is not taught all over the world to anyone with a pulse!

It is so fundamental to the way our society works and the way in which the world can become a better and more equal and fair place and also how the outcome relies on your skills and your ability to work hard and be ambitious and determined!

The equality of opportunity vs the equality of outcome (as explained by Jordan Peterson) is this:

We want equality of opportunity.... But we cannot achieve equality of outcome.

We want to make the economics and the world such that everyone has the same level of opportunity --> this is one of the reasons I find the Steem blockchain to have such a compelling model --> everyone has an equal opportunity when they first create their accounts.

Some people are further along in their lives and have different abilities --> a potential whale, for example, might have an extra $100k sitting around and thus, he/she can throw that into STEEM and instantly become a big influencer.

While that may seem like inequality of opportunity, it actually isn't... It's inequality of outcome.

Everyone has the opportunity to become a whale, but not everyone becomes a whale. It's that simple.

We can all work hard to achieve what we want, some will get it "faster" and through different skills and abilities than others.. That's just the nature of economics. We all have the same opportunity though.

So get out there and keep working hard for what you want to achieve! The opportunities are abundant!
