RE: Watch Elon Musk Troll a TED Talk

in #futurology7 years ago

No doubt there'll piles of debt and he's getting plenty of state support - just seem like one of the better places resources can go to imo. But I think he has severely under-estimated the time horizons for some of the stuff he's dabbling in. Let's see how it goes :)

Sort:

He is the epitome of corporatism, not capitalism. As far as I have understood from your posts in the past, everything you despise about the current system.

No matter what he does, no matter how revolutionary it is, is pointless. NASA did the exact same moves back in the day when they went head to head with Russia. Everyone was praising NASA for taking us to the moon when their actions could actually start a third world war while the debt was gigantic.

We often forget what is going on behind the scenes because we are caught up with the superficial and what the media are selling us. Elon Musk is skin deep. Heck the other day I was watching a youtube video in regards to how to replicate his battery wall for a fraction of the price. There is no special technology behind it.

Essentially you are shilling a corporatist car salesman :)

Yeah more writing this in jest, and just saying he's been doing good with whatever he's doing. I'm more interested in the effect that it has on the relevant industries. I do tend to write people in good light, if not a little :) lol

Many other companies have been doing what he is doing. It is no secret. He just got attention because he expresses liberal ideas, things that excite the commoners that seek a utopic world.

Many other companies have been doing what he is doing.

You don't realize that they're doing what he is doing because he showed that doing what he is doing is possible to do.

Electric cars for mass adoption with autonomy: After he started handling the company.
Reusable rockets: After his proposal and demonstration - by Team SpaceX.
Super high speed transportation: After he proposed the paper.

There is nothing secret - couldn't agree more. Most of the tech he works upon, is open sourced and that's exactly what is great.

He expresses liberal ideas, things that excite the commoners that seek a utopic world.

Visionary much?

You are buying into the meme. Many people have thought of doing all these things before. Problem is always the funding. He is using tax dollars to fund memes that 90% are going into military programs, much like it has been going on with NASA.

I can bring my niece with yet another 3 absurd ideas, give her 100 billion dollars and she could accomplish as much by rubbing her shit on the CEO table. You don't seem to understand how the world operates...

Right.

Read this. Next time you buy into a pop-culture meme try to think for yourself. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't and you are just presented with only the tip of the iceberg

Debunking The Elon Musk Meme

Was aware of his debts and horrible deadline issues. That doesn't take away his contribution and achievements.

If something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't and you are just presented with only the tip of the iceberg.

Right. Doesn't Steem sound too good to be true? I support Steem and surprisingly you seem to be heavily invested in it too.

There's also a difference between what others could have done with the same wealth that he is doing. That's uncertainty and there's no end to the discussion of possibilities if things were to happen the way you or I'd want it to happen. Coming to the facts and away from speculation, he has done it.

The difference is, others could have, should have or would have but he did it.

We all think we should have invested in bitcoins back in 2010 or 2011 when the price was dirt cheap. You can think of all the possible reasons why you should have done it when you had the first opportunity to invest in it. The difference is, whoever bought bitcoins back then and holds them now, has those bitcoins. You can't take those away. You or I can whine about how easily he/she became rich, what's right or what's wrong, what's fair and what's not. However, you can't take those bitcoins away from him, that he/she bought it legally when we all had the opportunity to do the same.

So, yeah. He produced results legally and I choose to support his ideas and vision. You can peacefully wait for his downfall and say "I was right the whole time". To be able to come up with such absurd ideas and still have the scientific community ponder about it, takes a track record of a genius. Not everyone can do that.
