BeautifulSunday - Plant Pot Covers from Used Materials - Upcycling in the Works - Prototypes Just Arrived

in #futureisnow7 years ago (edited)

The Sun is out in my little city of Amsterdam. But that wonderful event does not give me the most beautiful feeling, today. I just received some photographs of two new prototype products from our designer and THAT is making my Sunday absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

I'll post more about the project some other time. In short: together with a resourceful and creative designer and two of my friends, we launched a new project. We take old used and unused materials thrown away by others and transform it into new products. BTW, we do not call these materials trash as so many others do, but resources!

A month or so ago, we came up with the idea to enhance the looks of plants and more particular the plant pots with covers. Today our designer finished the first two prototypes and I'm very pleased with the results.

The image below is one prototype for which we took the black banner material used to cover the metal fences commonly used at events in The Netherlands to create the outside of the plant pot cover and cotton from an used cotton bag to created the inside of the plant pot cover.

Part of the design of this plant pot cover is the ability to fold the top to give it an extra design feature and the option to the user to define the hight of the cover when in use.

Our second prototype is made of jute bags used the transportation of coffee beans. The handle is not only an design feature, but also allows to hang the cover (with plant) eg against the wall.

Whether you like them or not; Feel free to express your thoughts in a comment below. I would love to get your feedback on the prototypes.

I prefer the one with the handle :-) Thanks for sharing on #beautifulsunday.

Thank you for your feedback.

You're welcome

This is a great project recycling and repurposing @edje!

Thank you. I think so indeed. We need to reduce waste and increase re-use. I just hope we can make a business out of it. That is the purpose, since in the end it cost a lot of time to get this project executed. But I'm pretty confident we do something good and the awareness is increasing in my country on these type of projects and offerings.

Thank you :)

BTW I find the summery of the challenges very helpful
There is one more called #monomad

Didn't know there were this many challenges out there.

These are just the weekday photograph challenges, that are in fact not real challenges as far as I know, but themes to share some nice photographs with the community. Some of them have a challenge component in it. Other then the listed, there are many more challenges run by many Steemians.
