About Girlsfoundation project, empowering women in agriculture
Hello everyone, I'll love to give update about our preparation for our on going project which is to empower women in agriculture.
What is agriculture?
Agriculture is the art or science of cultivating the ground, including the harvesting of crops, and the rearing and management of livestock; tillage; husbandry; farming.
The agricultural sector is one sector that has been neglected in most African countries, the sector has been left for most people in the rural area with the mentality that farming is for the uncivilised but forgetting the fact that agriculture was the starting point of most developed nation.
The aim of this project is to encourage and motivate women in agriculture and also provide them with essential farming tools.
Talking about farming tools, I'm not talking about bulldozers, tractors etc because we will be visiting local farmlands and as such we'll be providing them with local farm tools to help with their farming activities.
The goal of this project is to help little farmlands grow to something big in the nearest future. This project will help increase the productivity of the farm lands we will be visiting and it will also serve as an avenue to promote the steem blockchain.
This project will be carried out in Nigeria and Ghana. The Nigerian team will be supervised by @raymondbruce and @faetee while the team in Ghana will be supervised by @mcsamm.
We are glad to announce our partnership with steem church farm @farms on this project.
@farms is a project that is setup to encourage and support individuals in agriculture.
We working with @farms will help us carryout this project effectively and efficiently. Earlier today @farms introduced the partnership on their blog - @farms partnering with at @girlsfoundation on the empowering of women in agriculture
@farms will join us in going out for the outreach and will bills will be funded by @girlsfoundation.
What will be provided to the farms?
We will provide them with local farm tools.
2 shovels [each farm] : 2*4=8
2 rake [each] : 2*4=8
2 hoe [each] : 2*4=8
Money for fertilizer
Online price of the farming tools in Nigeria
For the fertilizer there is no fixed price and as such the price can not be gotten online but the coordinator of steem church farm @abiye gave us full details on the type of fertilizer to be distributed and the price.
Amount to be spent
8 shovels: 1 shovel - 6.9USD * 8= 55.2USD [75.8steem]
8 rake: 1 rake - 9.7USD * 8 = 77.6USD [106.1steem]
8 hoe: 1 hoe - 5.84USD * 8 = 46.7USD [63.3steem]
Money for fertilizer - 18.1USD per farm - 18.1USD * 4 farms = 72.4USD [98.5steem]
Total = 251.9USD [343.7steem at the current price]
I'll love to say a very big thanks to the steemit community for all the support that has been given to the girlsfoundation.

The girls foundation is a project set up to enlighten young ladies of their norms and value, advocate for the girl-child, encourage and support them with the little we can.We believe the girl-child can bring about change in our society. Women are essential to the nation because they take care of its children, the children are the future leaders of the nation, if you are familiar with the bible you must have heard of this verse “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he won‟t depart from it”.Girls foundation was founded by a group of selfless ladies, it is a non�governmental organization an d believes in decentralization.
VISION:-
- To enlighten youths of their purpose in life. We believe once you know the truth and purpose of your existence you are free, the journey to success and failure now lies in your hands.
- Rape free society- Rape is a sexual assault carried out against a person forcefully. The rate at which girls are being raped these days is alarming, we are also humans and we deserve respect. Most rape victims suffer from trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, serious injuries and in some cases pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection.
- Fight against domestic violence- it is also known as intimate partner violence, domestic abuse or family violence ; it's a form of violence committed in a domestic or family setting, such as in marriage or cohabitation. It is called intimate partner violence when committed by spouse and called family violence when it involves the kids, parents or elders. Domestic violence has several effects on human that's is why girls foundation is picking it up. Effects of domestic violence
includes :
1.) Physical effect: This involves bruises round the victim, broken wrists, shortness of breath etc.
2.) Mental effect: This involves PTSD (post-traumatic stress),
pressing, drug abuse, suicidal thoughts etc.
3.) Emotional effect: This involves feeling unworthy, hopeless and not motivated etc.
4.)It affects the development of the kids and they suffer from
depression, anxiety, fear etc
Domestic violence always produces an international cycles of
violence. Funny, only few people see themselves as being abused; considering it as family matter. - Girl education: Some people still believe that training a female child is a waste of time and money 'cause they feel she'd still end up in the kitchen, well sorry to disappoint you but ladies can do much more than just being house wives, lots of educated women are doing fine in our society today. Every child deserves equal right to education.We don't think anyone should be treated differently because of their gender, we are all one and it's high time we realized that.
CONCLUSION:-
The primary aim of the girls foundation is to enlighten youths and increase the awareness of the steem blockchain and steemit. Giving girls the ability to create wealth with their writing skills, without waiting for the government intervention.
Documentations
Visit to the orphanage
2nd of July 2018 the girls foundation visited Lemu orphanage home in port Harcourt, Nigeria.
After which we talked to the owners of the orphanage and presented the little gift we got for them.
Then we moved on to the story section which was the most interesting aspect of the visit. I handled the story section and i told the kids two stories, titled "the honest wood cutter" and "the man and the little cat"
Visit to enlighten young ladies
On the 13th of June 2018 we visit the females of new era collage.

Distribution of writing materials to assist the educational sector
We visited the school on their graduation, 19th July 2018 to give the graduating students and the best graduating students gifts to encourage them.

Great initiative, but I do hope that the shovels you bought them are not the ones pictured, as those appear to be snow shovels, which are neither intended nor designed for digging in the ground.
Agricultural shovels should have a sharpened pointed end for digging in soil. I've been gardening organically for years and, as a small woman dealing with heavy clay soil, I can attest that the proper shovel is worth its weight in gold.
Also, I highly recommend teaching the girls to make compost and grow their crops organically, as the the resulting crops will be healthier, more nutritious, and better able to withstand weather extremes than those grown with purchased fertilizers.
Sheet composting is the easiest way to start, which is explained here:

This is a great way to prepare the soil quickly, with minimum work and expense, while vastly improving the texture and quality of the soil over time.
This is much more useful knowledge than teaching them to rely on purchased products that don't do nearly as good a job as Mother Nature.
