CLASS 2 DRESSMAKING, BASIC BACK STROKE BEGINNERS

Back basic pattern.

It is very useful to know how to draw these basic patterns because from them, through different transformations more or less difficult we can make all the patterns that we want. We recommend that you take advantage of the tutorials to draw them, the basic patterns made to measure because soon I will use them to make some clothes that I am sure you will love them.

Back length It is measured from the first cervical vertebra, something projecting, along the middle of the back to the waist, or the tape measure that you have knotted.
Back width. Measure from birth () It is important to adopt a straight but relaxed posture.

Measures to take:

The first thing we have to do is take the necessary steps to draw the pattern. We will take, with our tailor's meter, the following measures:

A. Neck: Contour of the neck leaving a finger of slack
B. Shoulder: Distance from the neck-shoulder angle to the end of the shoulder
C. Back length: Distance from the neck to the waist
D. Arm width: Arm to arm distance, 12 cm from the neck-shoulder angle.
E. Back width: Distance from side to side, below the arms
F. Waist: Waist outline

In the previous image you can see a diagram of how the pattern is drawn. The process is not difficult although at first glance the scheme can be a bit convoluted.

The process is explained below:

1.- Draw a rectangle of base AB half the width of the back and height AC the waist back.

2.- Mark the point D, which will be 1/6 of the contour of the neck. From that point D low in vertical 1.5 cm and frame point E.

3.- Passing point E I draw a horizontal straight line and draw the back neckline.

4.- From line AB, I measure down 1/3 of the length of the shoulder and draw another horizontal line parallel to the previous one.

5.- From point D I draw a straight line of length equal to the length of the shoulder and cut with the horizontal line that I drew in the previous step.

6.- From the low point A in vertical 12 cm and frame the point H.

7.- Draw a horizontal line that passes through H and has a length equal to half the width of armholes. Mark the point I.

8.- Frame the waist (point J). The distance CJ is calculated:
CJ = (1/4) waist contour + clamp width
Clamp width = LM = (hip-waist) / 8

9.- From J I draw a line of length equal to the side that intersects the vertical line of the rectangle and marks the point K

10.- Drawing the armhole joining the GIK points

11.- Drawing the notch clamp. The center of the clamp will be in the middle of line CJ. From that point I first draw a vertical line upwards and then from this central point frame on each side half the width of the clamp and I mark the points L and M. One the points L and M with the vertical line by means of straight lines of length equal to 16 cm.

This is a basic tutorial on how to take back measurements for beginners.
