Sounds like you just got a bad mechanic. Ultimately, you will need an inspection to determine if anything needs to be repaired or replaced. Generally when routine maintenance is performed, the mechanic will point out anything wrong if they notice it. With high milage vehicles, I recommend that you get a brake shop to do an inspection on your brakes. An inspection is often times free where I live. I don't know if that is true where you live. I also recommend asking the parts stores where to find a quality mechanic that is honest. Sometimes they have experience with who is a good and honest.
