Why Is It So Hard To Get Started?


You wake up in the morning and you look in the mirror and you are disgusted with yourself. How in the world did you gain so much weight? Who is that person in the mirror? And you tell yourself, “Today is the day I will start my diet.” And then you walk downstairs and you see the donuts, they are calling out to you and you cave. After you have finished your second you tell yourself, “Tomorrow I will start my diet, I already blew it today.” And you continue to eat whatever you want for the rest of the day. Sound familiar ?
Why is it so hard to get started? Well first of all, don’t use the word diet. It has the word die in it for goodness sake and who wants to die from food? There are truly ways to begin this journey and it can be pleasant it does not have to be awful.
For starters, check your attitude. If you are already thinking that you will never be able to lose weight or stick to a lifestyle plan you will not be able to do it. You are in control of you mind, body and mouth. You cannot blame anyone for you. Have an “ I can” attitude. Yes the world is full of bad choices but it is also full of good choices. You get to choose. Choose to lose.
Take responsibility for yourself. It is so easy to blame anyone for where you are but that is not fair. Remind yourself that you are the one who got to where you are and you are the one who can get yourself out. It all involves taking action and choosing what is truly the best for you and being over weight is not healthy. Period.
Stop comparing yourself with others. It is really easy to look at others and say, “I wish I could eat like them, they don’t know what it is like to be fat.” Not fair so stop right there. When we compare ourselves with others we are actually judging someone. Choose to eat healthy, it is a choice. Whoever you are comparing yourself to is also choosing too or they wouldn’t be thin, right? Be happy with who you are inside and begin to work on the outside. You are needed and loved and getting healthy is a positive thing to do, for yourself and for those that love you.
Really start. Don’t just say you are going to really do it. We have all said things that we never do and then make excuses as to why we aren’t doing it. In our minds it is just someone else’s fault, it’s easier to blame them because it takes all responsibilities off you. So give yourself a chance and start today, and stop beating yourself up.

Don’t starve yourself. When most people think diet, they think no food. Let’s call it a lifestyle change. Lifestyle changes are for the better and the great thing is you can eat as much of the good food as you want. Eat all the colors of the rainbow, low-fat meats, fish, seafood, and plenty of vegetables. When you eat a fruit combine it with a protein. When you do this it will not only keep you fuller longer, but will release a slower amount of sugar in your bloodstream thereby keeping insulin right where it needs to be.
Get excited about you new foods. No more processed foods does not have to be boring! Look for new recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will be so amazed at how good this food tastes and better yet how much better you feel. Eating lots of good veggies and fruit will give you lots of antioxidants which help fight inflammation. As you lose weight you will take pressure off of your knees, and hips. Walking won’t be painful and taking the steps will not only burn more calories but will help to get you in shape.
Stop telling yourself you won’t like it. If you have been eating processed foods then you have confused your taste buds to crave processed foods. Say what? Processed foods contain things called excitotoxins. These excitotoxins ruin your taste for real food. It is true. Every single person I work with starts out with at least a 1 week cleanse with no sugar, carbohydrates, or processed foods, and almost every single one of them tells me how sweet and tasty strawberries are! Once you get these toxins out of your body you will be amazed how delicious that real foods taste, you can eat as much as you want of them and STILL LOSE WEIGHT.
Don’t look back at your past mistakes. Today is a new day full of new excitement and new choices. Choose to lose. Choose to start a new. Be excited about your choices and be excited that you’ve chosen to create a new you. You are the one responsible for your life. Don’t ever let anybody own you or tell you what to do. Look in the mirror and tell yourself how wonderful you are, how strong you are, and how excited you are that you’ve chosen this new path. It helps to have a accountability so you could even try to find someone to journey with you. Live life to its fullest and healthiest that you can. You don’t need to be on a ton of medications, and going off the medications as you get healthier will give you longevity. So what are you waiting for?
