Fruits And Veggies Monday - Shredded Fruits

Hi everyone!
Happy #fruitsandveggiesmonday contest by @lenasveganliving and hosted by @plantstoplanks

Today I make shredded fruits, and to be honest I’m little bit confused how to explain this in English, my bad....that is what! I do like to share my Asian cuisines, which is some of them are little bit weird for some people.
Even my hubby was questioning me about that shredded fruits that I made today, He was like...”why do you eat the mango with chilli? you’re supposed to eat sweet mango,not spicy mango” Lol
Oh well,
We normally called this shredded fruits as “Rujak Serut” in Indonesia, it’s basically shredded fruits served with tamarind sauce. And the common fruit to make this Rujak Serut is mango, well actually the basic ingredients it has to be mango, and you can also mix with other fruits such, apple, pineapple, orange, etc. And for today, I combined mango, apple and cucumber to make this weird style of eating fruits, as my husband said 😂🤣
But, if you’re Asian, at least Indonesian I bet you’ll like to having in when the weather is hot! maybe...😉
For me, I do like to having it while the weather is hot like today, other than delicious, Shredded fruits has a fresh sensations.
So, for whoever who wants to make this Shredded Fruits or Rujak Serut, check it out my simple recipe!

Ingredients:

Fruits:

  • Mango
  • Cucumber
  • Apple

For the sauce:

  • 3 Red Thai chillies
  • 2 Cloves garlic
  • 3 Tamarind
  • 200 g Palm sugar
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice

Instructions:

Step 1: Making The Sauce

  • Peel off the tamarind, and boil in about 200 ml water.
  • Leave it until simmering, add in palm sugar and lemon juice.
  • Turn down the heat to low, leave to simmer.

  • While you turn the heat to low, get ready the chili and garlic, Pound/ground them until fine, or you can even use a blender to blend them.

  • When the Chili and garlic is ready, Add in to boiling sauce.
  • Stir and let it boil for a bit. Turn of the heat.
  • Straine the sauce into a bowl.

  • Let it cool down, and you could keep it in the fridge if you wish.

Step 2: Get Ready The Fruits

  • Peel off the fruits.

  • Begun to Shredde

When you finished with the shredding, place all shredded fruits into a bigger bowl, pour in the cold sauce into it and stir.

Serve them cold!

Ooh, that does look like a great combination! I know they often do chili powder on mangoes in Central and South America, so it does make sense to have that sweet and spicy combination. It is really hot here right now, so I might have to give this a try soon. Thanks for sharing!
