Hey Cici, this is look like Velvet Tamarind😊

It is the velvet tamarind, for the tree which grow in South East Asia, it will be Dialium indum, while in Asia will be Dialium Conchinchinense and those which grow in Africa will Dialium Guineense or liki-liki.

it has a velvety hard shell which suggested not to consume until the researcher found benefit of eating its shell.

how's the taste, cici?

This one? It's sour than the one I found in my hometown, Aceh. It's not until recently that I found out about different varieties of this seasonal tropical fruit. You will find it easily if you are strolling around thd traditional market in Thailand and Sarawak, Malaysia. But, this fruit also native to Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

the seeds, I have never succeedded to grow a tree from this seed, I wonder why😯 because I never seen its tree too.

the shell, inedible

Velvet tanarind or tamarind plum taste sweet-sour like tamarind but it's powdery not to sticky like tamarind (though there is a variety whic tasted almost like raisin+dates+tamarind😀.. I'll be happy if I can taste it). I read so many article about the benefit of this fruit, but frankly.. I never care about the benefit, I just love to eat it till my mouth dried😂😂😂 that's what eill happens when you consume too much sour fruits😊.

Anyway you can check the information about its benefit 🌱h🐾e🍃r🍬e

I read that one of the article mentioned about sweet-tart taste, I think when you pour some sugar on its flesh, so you can reduce the sour taste then you already have a sweet-tart candy now😊. This fruit is also chategorized as near threatened plant whic mean the habitat is getting lesser and lesser each year. The peak season of this fruits is on December to May but sometimes in Aceh was from August to January.

in my country, when a young woman who is a newly wed, when she craves for this fruit.. people will suddenly associated their mind to pregnancy😂 but I love to have this fruit since I was a kid😊

I wish I could have one of the tree no matter how big it will be in our Hutan Wakaf in Jantho, Aceh Besar. It's not easy to grow this tree anywhere, but I'd like to know whether my fellow forest lover succeed to grow one of its kind.

Fav 😍😍😍

Biasanya lebih enak kalo ngutip langsung sehabis jatuh sendiri dari pohonnya

Nggak ada pohonnya kami, cuma bisa beli di lhoknga..

They do look like they are covered in velvet! And I agree with you on the health benefits, all fruits have great nutritional components but I just love to eat them regardless. 😋 That's kind of sad to hear they might be in danger of not having a habitat to grow in. I hope that can be turned around! That other variety you mentioned with the taste of dates and raisins sounds delicious, too. Gosh I guess I really do need to make it to the international market soon! 🤣🤣

Yes @plantstoplanks.. because it has a big big tree and most people tend to cut the tree and use the trunk for furniture, because the economy price of the fruits not really high I supposed.
I never found the sweet-tart kinda taste one too.. wondering if @skramatters ever taste one

Oh yeah, that makes sense, but still sad to think about losing yet another species. Seems to be all too common these days in the plant and animal kingdom!

But.. I think once this fruits are available at the modern market, I think someone or some communities already try to conserve the tree
