Here is how the garden looked last week when I removed weeds and added compost

And this was last Friday. I mixed the compost with the soil

Here I removed some more weeds

And here I added some more compost

You can clearly see where the soil is mixed in and where it's not mixed in yet

This was Saturday. We started with the fence and planted the veggies. We only finished the longer sides of the fence and left the smaller parts open for the night, so on Sunday we could finish it, after putting compost on the last part of the garden.

On the right we planted the cauliflowers and next to it the Brussels sprouts

Next to the sprouts are the broccoli plants and next to them are some strawberry plants a woman gave us from another garden

The strawberry plants are waiting in line to be put on the spot 😁

And on Sunday we finished the composting and fence. We also planted some herbs in between the veggies. Some help as natural pesticides.

Some oregano and hyssop on the left and some thyme and sage between the Brussels sprouts

And some rosemary next to the broccoli

Next to the strawberry plants are some tomato plants and some pepper plants that I had at my apartment

Wow it all looks so good! The veggies are so nice and tender when you boughht them. Will they have anough time to grow before winter?
You could also get some lettuce seeds and sow between the rows. It will grow very fast and but the time the other veggies are big you will already eat it :) and you don't have to wait for it to be big, you can pick the whole young lettuce plants and it is whole :D

The fence is against the rabbits?

Yes, it is, almost all gardens had a fence, so we wanted one as well \☺/. The lettuce is going to be seeded today or later this week. My mom also has kale and leek plants for us, have to pick them up in Maastricht.

Ohh it all sounds delish!
You can leave the leeks in the ground for the winter and they will be still good in spring ;)

\☺/ And harvest the kale as soon as it has had a frosty night! \☺/ I love kale! I made spaghetti with kale, Roma tomatoes and mushrooms yesterday, leftovers for today :D

Ohhhhh sounds good! We used to grow in a garden I remember but I don't remember what for. My mum didn't cook it. It had such pretty leaves we used to use it for plates decorations and it always had lots of caterpillars on it! After the summer chickens we eating it :p They loved it!

Why it needs a frosty night? Loses bitterness or something?

The cold increases the sugar content in the leaves of kale and the softening cell structure makes it easier to digest.

Ahhh I didn't know :)

This is so exciting Remco........I love to see the progress of growing your garden. Great job so far, its looking very promising. Looks lime I'll be enjoying seeing your plants grow during the long winter here in Canada and I will be little bit sad missing the summer but happy for you at the same time. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to your next post. Thank you so much for this wonderful entry. UPV & RSD 🍇🍍🍑🌸🍑🍍🍉

My pleasure and thanks for the upv&rst! \☺/

What an exciting day this is! You readied and planted so fast!

Soon you will be harvesting!

Planted some kale today, but I didn't take pictures. We also mixed the soil and compost of the whole garden. The soil is very loose now. I think we've done well so far, but it's still a long way till harvest...

Save me some kale! ;)

You did well!

Remco what a beautiful garden! I hope to have some like it someday! Thank you for taking all these pictures to share with us!

Thank you and my pleasure! If you get a chance, just go for it. The time spent is well worth it, you sleep, eat, feel better and I am doing this with a friend and his wife. With 3 people all it takes is a few hours a week (2 or 3) to get the garden started, now we have to keep it going and weed-free.
