Why I Support the FreeWrite House and Announcing FWH Swag

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name

And they're always glad you came

Those words are the chorus to the theme song of a TV show called Cheers. Do you know it? It ran in America for eleven seasons in the 1980s and 90s. I imagine it's made its way around the world since then.

What does it have to do with @freewritehouse? Everything.

The community

@freewritehouse was among the first writing communities I came across when I joined Steemit. Like everyone, I wanted to post daily but it's hard to keep up the pace. So when I found the five minute freewrites I thought "I can do that!" All I needed was to write for five minutes each day. Easy peasy (in reality I'd spend more like 30 after I looked for and found pictures plus all the formatting which I didn't yet understand back then).

I still remember getting a warm welcome comment from @mariannewest after I linked my first post in the comments. I felt like I'd just walked into a place like Cheers, filled with friends that were glad I came. So I stayed.

Though I didn't post daily freewrites as I intended, I did stay engaged with the community and write the freewrites from time to time - quite intensely at first too.

If it weren't for that initial warm fuzzy feeling, I probably wouldn't be on Steem now, I wouldn't have written anything this last NaNoWriMo or had my story go through a beta reading process before publishing it (Tentatively scheduled for May 30!).

I also wouldn't be earning my master's in creative writing in fiction.

Without @freewritehouse and @mariannewest I would still just be dabbling in fiction writing like I always have. Now, it's a major focus of my life.

Announcing FreeWrite House Swag!

I worked with @mariannewest to create some FreeWrite House swag to also help support the cause and the community. I'd opened a Zazzle store for my website the NightOwl Writer, but hadn't got around to adding any products yet. But when you go to the store you'll see the FreeWrite House Collection products.

I've only got a few items up there so far, but keep checking back to see what gets added. If you want a certain item that isn't there, just let me know and I'll get into the collection.

Most of the Freewrite House artwork in the collection was created by @byn. She's an important part of the FreeWrite House. Her first book, 365 Marks on the Wall, was inspired by a five minute freewrite! You can find it on Amazon [Affiliate link].

Some of the more clever phrases came from @zeldacroft, who is new to freewriting, but whose imagination and wit are inspiring (and she's my daughter so yeah, she's cool!).
