This is the 7th in the series of daily freewrite prompts.

I’m not normally one to panic. I keep my cool in most situations, but fear overtook me when I remembered the open door. I rushed down the stairs and into the living room to close it.

But it was already closed.

The back of my neck began tingling. Then the knot of fear in my chest grew tighter. I wasn’t alone. Someone was behind me in the living room. No, more than one. Taking a deep breath I could sense five people. And I was no longer afraid.

Slowly I turned around and stopped in a relaxed, but defensive, stance. I was ready if if someone tried to jump me.

But the group of five men in front of me didn’t look that imposing. They might be to some I suppose but they weren’t to me. All five wore stiff black suits, white shirts and black ties. Except for the one sitting down. His tie was a dark slightly iridescent purple. The other four men stood flanking him, two on each side.

“You’ve given us quite a bit of trouble this time Maryann,” said the sitting man. “Why can’t you ever stay wiped?”
