Raymond drew a chip away from the bowl to his mouth. He savored the taste of the first bite then popped the rest into his mouth with a crunch. No one seemed to notice him as they laughed and looked over their menus at El Diablo Mexican Restaurant. He drew another chip from the bowl and popped in his mouth.

He crunched this chip with zeal and licked the salt from his upper lip. He looked back at the bowl and then over to his mother. She was laughing and hugging her sister. She didn't seem to notice him.

He reached for another chip. He licked the salt off the bottom of the textured corn, then popped it in his mouth. He sucked off the rest of the salt until the chip was soggy. He chewed it up, although it no longer had the crunching sound he loved.

He grabbed another one. This time he took a small bit off the end and another making a steady crunching sound as nibbled on the chip to his fingertips. He licked his fingers.

He looked back at his family. Dad pointed out a picture of a taco meal to the waiter. He asked if it came in chicken and eagerly ordered when he heard the answer yes. Raymond drew back another chip. His mother ordered a salad and added guacamole for good measure. She flopped her menu down and laughed again as her sister squeezed her neck.

Raymond picked up another chip and was aiming it for his mouth when he was interrupted by his grandmother.

"Bomboncita, you will ruin your dinner eating all those chips."

Too late. He already felt full. Still, he grabbed another chip and popped it in his mouth.
