Sandy was startled awake when she heard a knock at her door, in the middle of the night.
She put her robe on and listened from her bedroom for another knock.
"Tap, tap, tap" Sandy tip toes to the front door, to check the peep hole, nothing there.
As she heads back to her bedroom, she hears the crystal door knob try to turn. Thank God the chain is on the door.
She grabs the . 38 special from the hallway closet, and points it at the door.
Sandy yells out, "Who's out there?" The door knob moves again. "I have a gun, I'm calling the police!"
"Tap, tap, tap" Sandy pulls the hammer back on her revolver and points it at the front door.
"911 what's your emergency?" a voice comes over her phone. Sandy yells into the phone, "Somebody is at my front door, and I have a gun!" Making sure everyone could hear.
The door knob moves again and Sandy shoots toward the front door, then hears a thud.
"Ma'am, ma'am, are you there?" Came over the phone.
Sandy, still pointing her gun at the front door said, "yes, I'm still here." "I shot at the door, the door knob quit moving."
"Ma'am, stay inside, the police are almost there, put the gun down." said the calm voice, on the other end of the line.
Sandy could see the flashing lights of the squad car through the curtains, and put the gun back in the closet.
"Lady, it's the police, put your gun down, and open the door!"
Sandy went to the door and looked through the peep hole, then opened the door.
"Ma'am, are you ok? Who is this guy?" Sandy looked at the man sprawled out on her porch and recognized her deaf neighbor...
