A Migraine Journal - Nunchucks
The day dragged on and my head feels as if it were lambasted with a healthy set of nunchucks....right across the temple. I daydreamed about leaving work from 11:00 a m. until quitting time at 4:30.
The looming gray clouds this morning compelled me to down an allergy tablet early on this morning. It may have kept this hedonistic disease at short-term bay, but when a co-worker came to my desk seeking Excedrin I gave her two and ingested the last two in my stash. The day continued to spiral as phone call after phone call beeped in my ear and I struggled to remain present and responsive.
To say this is short of ideal pales to the grim reality of brain mush I grapple with while performing my duties. Some duties more complex than others, some nearly impossible to carry out, but somehow carried out.
I took a break and wandered around the floor, lapping my co-workers cubicles in a random path.
I daydreamed of closing my computer and driving home 4, 3, 2, 1 hours prior to my normal quitting time. I have FMLA, but the catch to using that job protection is sacrificing my paid time off. Each day uses wipes away a vacation day. Many get used just for the botox treatments and consults with my neurologist.
So I powered through, as I mostly do. Upon arriving home after the hour commute, I called my salon and canceled a hair appointment with regrets. I rescheduled for next Tuesday.
I contemplate tactics of battling the migraine in full swing and type in a disconnected fashion letting my frustration and disappointment seep through fingers well acquainted with broken plans and indescribable pains.
I can type, there's that, but my thoughts ping in every possible direction and float about the surreal.
A person can survive more than they know, and many do. I'll just leave the train of thought as a testament of unalterable events that visit uninvited and hope you see if you walk these same paths that you don't walk them alone.

I have struggles with headaches most of my life. Your description is accurate and vivid. Thanks for sharing!
I'm very sorry that you also struggle with headaches. I got mine after a car accident when I was a pedestrian in April of 2000. Would it be wonderful if there was something that they could stop them with? Thank you for coming by and commenting.

I'm so sorry you suffer chronic headaches too!
Allergy pills - you'd only need one a day with Clariton orZirtec. I'm on cetirizine,10 mg, one tablet every 24 hours. (And the little red pill, pseudophedrine. And Nasacort, the daily nose spray.) But maybe you wrote in the last pill going to a co-worker for dramatic effect. Have you ever had a neurologist try to get you to stab yourself in the leg with Imitrex? Never again for me. Botox for migraines, at the neurologist's, wasn't an option ten years ago but it is now. I consider it but never try it. Let me know if you ever find anything that works!! for me, going gluten free helped a lot, and so did giving up dairy and eggs, but that leaves so little else - besides broccoli and kale (ew). Give up red wine? Chocolate? Ugh, you should see the list of migraine food triggers... soooo depressing. That'll force me to learn detachment. (Someday.)
