I had a chance to write a very creepy script for @carrieallen's new radio show, Steemstar After Dark. Tonight will be her second show ever! If you have not had a chance to see this show, you are missing out on a special treat!

This story idea is loosely based off of the older television shows like The Twilight Zone where the person finds themselves in a world in which they can not explain what is happening to them.

The Other Dimension is created to be an ongoing saga that anyone can continue. Each episode will include a new story about a person or persons who will face situations in the Other Dimension, that either solve a problem in their current life, or shine light on the contradictions.

I can't wait to see other writer's dive deep into the depths of their twisted psyche to bring us new tales from The Other Dimension....

INTRO

Some people say that we are currently living in alternate dimensions. That, somewhere else in parallel times we are living completely different lives. We could even be living many of these different lives simultaneously. Each life giving us the exact experiences we need to become a complete person.

We often think of pleasant scenarios or a parallel universe in which we are living a much better and prosperous life. In these alternate realities we have the money and the big house, we have the loving and devoted spouse, and we have the power to do anything we dream is possible…

But seldom do we give thought to the less desirable circumstances we may be experiencing at this very moment in time. The dimensions in which our alter selves are less fortunate or are placed in unwelcomed predicaments.

Have you ever been scared for no reason? Have you felt chills or stopped in your tracks; suddenly feeling someone else’s panic?

Maybe, just maybe, what you are feeling is you, but a different you… the you in… duh duh duh… The Other Dimension…

-CREEPY MUSIC-

NARRATOR

Travel if you dare to the Other Dimension; where happy endings often turn into nightmares. A realm in which your reality is not the reality you know now. Here, nothing’s predictable and things are not always what they seem.

What would you do if you woke up one morning to find you were living in an alternate universe? What changes would you expect to find?

Let’s find out what happens to Brooks Manning as he awakens in The Other Dimension…

BROOKS
Ah. Another beautiful morning. The money transfer I made yesterday should be in the bank. Cha-ching! I love making money.

Wait a minute. My cell phone is not working. I could have sworn I charged the phone before I went to sleep…

Oh well. I’ll check my laptop. Hmm. No Internet. (Sigh) I guess I need to go to the bank.

Marie?

MARIE
Yes honey?

BROOKS
How long has the internet been out?

MARIE
A couple of hours. You slept all morning. I was about to tell you I am on my way out to get my hair done. I have a tennis lesson at two, and after that a fitting for my dress. You haven’t forgotten about the dinner later tonight have you?

BROOKS
I haven’t forgotten. This is going to be the big deal sweetheart; if I can convince these investors to buy now. We are going to make a lot of money. I just need to make sure that transfer went through. I need to run to the bank.

MARIE
I’ll see you tonight. (kisses)

NARRATOR
When Brooks gets to the bank, he finds a group of customers standing outside chatting among themselves.

BROOKS
What’s going on around here?

BYSTANDER
Looks like the banks have all closed.

BROOKS
That’s impossible. The banks can’t just close.

BYSTANDER
The sign says, “closed until further notice”.

BROOKS
What am I going to do now?

BYSTANDER
Not much you can do but wait here in case they reopen.

(Cell phone Rings)

BROOKS
Hello?
Marie, what is the matter?

MARIE
The salon said they can’t take payment on the credit cards. I don’t have any cash. I can’t get my hair done.

Then, the Country Club called and said that the internet is down, and they can’t give lessons today. What is going on Brooks?

BROOKS
I’m not sure Marie. The bank is closed.

MARIE
Closed!? How are we going to get our money out? How am I going to get my hair and my nails done for tonight? How am I going to do anything?

BROOKS
Don’t worry Marie. We’ll figure this out. Meet me back at the house. Maybe the television will have some news.

NARRATOR
Later that afternoon Brooks and Marie understood the gravity of what was really happening…

NEWSCASTER
You are listening to the MPK Radio Broadcasting Network. The National Department of Security has issued a State of Emergency across the globe
.
The rumors are true. We are sorry to inform everyone that the internet has been erased. As of 2am local time, the computer infrastructure known as the internet has been effectively destroyed by a mega-virus set in motion during the last election wars.
All bank records, credit transactions, birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports, and vehicle registrations have been wiped clean. No records can be found.

The cable and satellite systems will no longer run unless another source of communication can be established.

Effective immediately all data and all information stored on the internet is non-provable leaving the streets ripe for violence and thief.

No one can prove they own their belongings, and identity can no longer be determined, leaving issued IDs useless. Any security systems working with the assistance of the internet will be disarmed.

Cities are reporting massive outrage at the banks, schools, and grocery stores as civilians try to grab necessities, cash and their loved ones from a non-existent system. The police are reporting migration as many of the residents are fleeing the cities by any means necessary.

Utility companies were forced to suspend all services…

(Sound of electric appliances turning off all at once.)

BROOKS
Marie, what are you doing? Why are you packing. Where are you going?

MARIE
I’m going to my mothers. She’s old she’ll know what to do. I need to get going before all hell breaks loose. It’s a long ride to Florida.

BROOKS
You are just going to leave me? We can get through this together. I have some cash in the safe. We will be fine.

MARIE
“We” won’t be fine. Everything we own is registered digitally. The house, the car, our clothes; everything. And, we have no way to prove that they are ours. How long do you think we will be able to protect them?

Besides, we barely know each other. You were always married to your job. You were married to your cell phone. You were never married to me. We’re not even legally married anymore.

There’s no longer any record of it.

I hope you can make it on your own.

(Door Slams)

BROOKS
Marie!? Noooooooooooooooooo!

NARRATOR
There Brooks Manning sunk into his four-thousand-dollar reclining leather chair, holding his thousand-dollar phone weeping like a little boy. He no longer owned anything… not even his name. Or, at least not that he could prove.

He only hoped that he wasn’t making the same mistakes he made in this life in… The Other Dimension.
