Hmm, this is the second freewrite I've read today that refers to a mountain pass in California called The Grapevine! Now I want to go see it for myself some day! (Preferably not in a semi truck.)
It remains iconic in my memory because of a trip we took in the 1970s over the pass in a U-Haul truck with no air conditioning. It was so hot. It's on the I-5 separating the San Joaquin from the Los Angeles basin.
