Jane glanced up at the cuckoo clock above the table as the bird’s cry caught her attention.
“Almost time to be at work,” pursing her lips while lifting the spoon of oatmeal towards Bobby’s defiant closed mouth, she thought, “why am I still in the work force with two rambunctious children? I am too tired to give them quality time.”
Steven had promised her after his promotion she could quit her job. He wanted the best in everything, the biggest house, widest TV and the fanciest car. He had stretched their credit to the limit. Quitting her job was out of the question now.
“I’m phoning in sick today and having a massage.”Jane thought grudgingly,”then getting my hair cut and colored.”
That evening as they watched the Global News with all the current disasters, she wondered whatever happened to the attraction they once had. He hadn’t even noticed her new hairstyle.
Jane worried about her marriage and how increasing global hunger and the global decline of the bees and butterflies would affect the future of her young sons.
Suddenly the bird’s cry reminded Steven his wife never appreciated the antique cuckoo clock he had brought back from his trip to Germany. No mind, the world was his oyster and he needed to find the next elusive pearl.
