Going Awry

Sunday and Red checking out closet in basement

If something will go awry, it will. Maybe that’s not the exact quote but it gives the same meaning as Murphy’s Law,

”whatever can go wrong, will go wrong” or ”If there is a wrong way to do something, then someone will do it.

This brings me to the question of who is Murphy and how come he makes the law. I’m thinking he was a man who things went awry many times in his life. But is that any different than anyone else’s life?

Just this morning things went awry in this house. First I must say I don’t like basements. I know they are great for a place for the furnace, tools, extra pots, pans, golf clubs, sump pump and the water pump. As for storing anything else there..forget it! Everything will smell musty in time if left there every long.

We have a large basement under the house and Hubby (who isn’t really a carpenter) decided to fix up one area. He worked diligently for weeks getting the walls and ceiling finished thus making a large room and the above closet. The basement room looks nice but we never use it. It could be good when we have company and play darts or pool there.

We had rain for a couple days and Hubby noticed an area of the wall in the basement room was damp. Sure enough, water was coming in by the outside window well. This can be easily fixed by improving the grade away from the house but the damage to the wall is already done. Mould/mold is always a concern when water comes in.

The only solution was to tear away part of the finished wall and throw the damp insulation away. Then the wall can be repaired.

...end of freewrite. Prompt awry.

Water! Not enough water is a big problem! Too much is also a huge problem! Sorry your husband’s hard work was messed up!

Thanks Cindy. It’s kind of disheartening having to do the work over. 😊

Ugh! This really stinks and water can really do a lot of damage. Most insurance won't cover flooding, either. I hope it doesn't cost a fortune to remove the damage and mold. !tip

Thanks Wanda and for the tip. 💕 Hubby removed the damaged wall and insulation and cleaned area with bleach. That will kill any mold. Hopefully not too expensive to buy new material.
Enjoy a !COFFEEA

I'm happy that the job was not too costly! It's good the hubby is handy. 😁

Shush, don't let Murphy hear you say that

Water can be so damaging, what a pity that did not happen before fixing the area up.

It was looking good, hopefully your husband will be able to fix the problem outdoors before starting inside again @redheadpei

Howdy redheadpei! I love basements. I miss them because here in Texas no one has them. Mold sucks though and basements usually have some. lol.
