Firelight Dance - Freewrite Day 508 Entry - Prompt: Beads

The dancer swayed by the fire, his beads clattering on his chest as he moved from side to side. His eyes closed, he danced to the beat of the drums, the sparks floating from the fire glinting off his sweat. As the beat sped up, he started moving faster, his movements getting more elaborate.

With a leap into the air, he opened his eyes, and started dancing over the fire. Jumping back and forth, spinning through the air as he did. Each leap, he went higher, until he was jumping over the highest sparks. Eventually, he just stayed in the air, dancing on the smoke of the fire. His jangling beads accompanied the beat of the drums and the shouts of the voices, a beautiful cacophony of noise. As this graceful dancer continued his elaborate, floating dance, the world starts to fade, everything turning the color of smoke.

And with a start, he awoke. He had fallen asleep on his couch, and been dreaming. Oddly, he could still hear the rattle of the beads. Looking around, he saw his baby daughter in her crib, shaking away at her rattler. Ah, the glorious creativity of the brain. He got up, and picked her up, and started dancing. He may not have been as graceful as in his dreams, but the joy-filled laughter of his daughter made him feel that he too, was dancing through the air.

I was really trying to figure out how to make this one either fit into my JitteryMan story, or as an animal freewrite, but neither one fit nicely. So I hope you enjoy this story about a dreaming father, and this beautiful image of a campfire I found on Unsplash.
