A Termite's Tumultuous Trip - Freewrite Day 497 Entry - Prompt: In the club
Hello friends. I hope that you're doing well :)
This is my response to the Freewrite prompt, a daily writing exercise that I am really enjoying doing. Thank you @mariannewest for hosting these.
I’ve been challenging myself to make all of the freewrites I do match a particular theme. So far, I have made them about wild animals that tend to get a bad reputation, and am finding it to be a very enjoyable challenge. I’d be curious if anyone else had any other suggestions.
Prompt: “In the club”
The termite awoke with a start. Here he had been, sleeping after a good eating in this hefty stick he had found, when all of a sudden he felt himself flying up into the air. The stick was being lifted! Just as suddenly as it began, he stopped moving, and he was able to get back to his feet.
As he was getting his bearings from being jostled, he heard loud grunting noises coming through the log. They were quite muffled, but sounded excited. The termite decided it was time to leave his comfy tunnel, but before he could start out, the stick started moving again. A little more prepared this time, he chomped into the wood, steadying himself as his whole world was thrown this way and that.
The grunting outside got louder, and the stick was bounced up and down. He held on tight, and wasn't thrown around too much. Then, with a sudden jerk and a deafening CRACK the stick broke in half, and he was exposed to the outside world. Seeing an opportunity, he threw himself from the stick, desperate to escape.
Landing safely on a clump of grass, he looked to see what had so shaken his world. To his surprise, he saw a very large and hairless creature, holding the other half of the stick and glaring at it. This creature had apparently picked up his stick to use as a weapon, and he had the misfortune of being in the club.
Luckily he made it out ok, and knew that before too long he would find another tasty piece of wood to call home. Hopefully next time he'd be the only one to find it appealing.
Termites are pretty awesome creatures. I am pretty sure that they build the biggest structure next to humans, as evidenced by the mounds in this picture.
Each of those mounds is a termite home. Termites very rarely, if ever, live individually, so I took some artistic liberties with this one.
They remind me of ants in their appearance. I'll have to look up more of their social structure, I'm curious if they operate similarly. Hopefully some of my freewrites have prompted further research for some of you.
I am looking for a partner for the we-write contest if anyone is interested. You can find details here.

I am not a fan of termites or ants either... 😅😅😅 But I can imagine and visualize that stick sticking into the "house" of the termite... I wouldn't do this either... Unless they invaded my house... I will get someone to chase them away...
Thank you for freewriting with us! Here's the prompt:- Day 513 : 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: ceiling.
Thanks again! With love and hugs.

Well, hopefully my stories helped a little bit with your dislike of them :)
No, the termite was in the club, which them was broke against a tree and he was flung out.
I'm glad to hear you wouldn't disturb their homes. It's sad how some people go around destroying them. Some of the colony nests are shockingly old. A lot of animal history being destroyed when that happens.

As long as the Termite is not coming to eat my house LOL
Haha, no this one was happy in the club until it was disturbed :p I'm pretty sure termites prefer untreated woods, especially as most housing beams are pressure treated anymore.
My dream house would be made of earth or adobe, so these little guys would be less of a problem then :)
