Freewrite Day 165 - The old record player

Charlie sat down by the window, just near his old record player. He pulled out one of his old records - the lovely smooth voice of Dean Martin. He started playing "King of the Road"

Room to let - 50 cents..."
Charlie sang along with the tune, getting lost in the lyrics. His eyes focused on the trees outside, just watching as the birds flew in and around. Life wasn't much better than this: even with the arthritis and all those stupid pills he had to take in the morning. As long as he could relax during the day and listen to Ol' Blue Eyes or Dean as they belted out the old tunes, he was alright.
In the old days a man like him wanted so much - the perfect girl and the perfect job. You wanted to get together with mates and travel and make amazing memories. But now things change. His daughter let him live in the flat out the back of the house and gave him a bit of hand in the morning - he was happy just to have this bit of independence and not have to go to one of those nursing homes! All he wanted was to be able to sit and listen to his favorite songs while he enjoyed the day. Then - for a little while in the afternoon, his grandchildren would come and sit with him and talk to him about their days. That was all he wanted! Nothing more...
