Freewrite Day 141 - learning new skills...

All the ladies in the Nursing Home were sitting together, waiting for the entertainment for the Tuesday afternoon. Usually someone came and played music for them, but today was something different.
A young man came in with some laptops, that he set up on tables for them.
"Come along ladies. I have something new for you to try!"
His name was Mark and he was introducing them to shopping on the Internet. He even allocated them $20 - each that they were given from the Nursing Home to do some shopping online. They could practice with anything.
The first lady, Brenda, sat at the computer.
"OK then - what would you like?"
"Wait a second Mark while I get out my Grocery list."
She shuffled in her bag. Inside was a large piece of paper. OK - M & M's for starters, family size bag. Oreos 5 packs, Chips 5 packs."
He looked at the list - "Who on earth is this for?"
"Me sweetheart!! Do you think I eat the crappy food this place serves up? I just chuck it in the bin and eat my own when I get to my room."
He just laughed - "I don't think your twenty dollars will cover this. When I get back we'll go through online grocery shopping and get some of these things." He looked at the other residents. They all had the same list. Maybe he needed to speak to the kitchen.
He left temporarily to go get a drink and a cigarette. One of the other residents sat next to Brenda.
"We don't need him. Let's start shopping."
"We don't have our credit information yet Mary."
Mary smiled - "We don't need it. His card was sitting on the table nearby. Come on - before he gets back. I want chocolate!!!"
My wife worked in a Nursing Home for several years as a wound care Nurse and she became very attached to her residents. I visited occasionally and I still visit the local homes as part of our church ministries. Thinking of those ladies doing something like this is so funny! I have to admit that I have witnessed some very clever and mischievous acts perpetrated by both the residents and the staff in those places. They are all people and people love to have fun and pull pranks!
When you work in the Nursing homes (as opposed to the hospital) you get to know the residents well and they become like a second family. It's why you would want to work there!! I did many years ago and loved it...
Hahah very original and funny scene.. It portrays very well the the typical group of old folks 😁👍
You can't keep a group of old chicks down lol!!
I could see mine ones here lol!
That's adorable! I can just see these elderly ladies pull out a shopping list and jump online. Haha.
Some of the old ladies in the nursing homes have ibteresting programs these days. They even run kindergartens in there. No keeping them down!!
That is so wonderful! It makes me happy!
The Old Steemian’s Home everyone is under the attack of infamous masonic Port-a-potties. They have been sent from their lord, the evil Hairy Potty, to destroy the creativity of this community! Will you help the Home to resist the siege and fight back? Here are our weapons!
Love this sweet(or felonious?) story. Though sometimes I wish it were more difficult to spend money. Will Power!
