Another Night At The Production
The head of the school is missing.
Production night for the Grade 2 students. Parents have arrived and everyone is ready. The 350+ students are ready. The teachers are ready. The piano player is ready. The soundman is ready
The parents are ready.
It is nearly time for the show to start, but there is no sign of the school's chief leader
This is a difficult situation. Someone needs to decide if the show should start anyway.
The show must go on.
"That's right. She may just be stuck in traffic. She may arrive soon. Whichever way, we must start the show."
The first set of students arrive on stage. They can't help but notice the empty chair. There are some sad faces among the students.
Zayed, a grade 2 student, walks slowly towards one of the microphones.
"I can't do this. We have to cancel the show. We can't continue if our head is not here."
Maya, who is on the other side of the stage, walks towards another microphone.
"But we've been rehearsing for so long, we can't cancel now. The show must go on."
The piano starts and the students start to sing. A slightly subdued performance but you have to admire their spirit.
In fact, it is a really great performance considering that the students know the plot. They know, as all those involved in the production know; the moment when our head of school will enter the stage.
"Is that why there were no programs printed for tonight's show?"
