The darkest hour - 5 minutes freewrite

Curled in a ball, waiting for sleep to come. No more tears, just the occasional shudder of gut-wrenching pain. Never knew what gut-wrenching meant before.
Never knew it can grow so dark. Trying to take up as little space as possible. If you're small enough there's no more room for pain.
Shut everything out. But the pain is within. Voices playing the same record again. Words that cannot be unspoken. Words that cannot be unheard. The shudder comes again, fists clench, fingernails digging blood in the palms of the hands.
There is no past - yesterday is no more. There is no future - how could it? There's only the now and the now hurts. That's all that matters.
Don't know what is worse - the angry voices in the head or the silence? Willing the phone to ring, but the phone will never ring again. Not in that tune - that tune is gone. Like yesterday.
There is no place you can hide from pain - you cannot hide in the closet or under the bed. Only in sleep. Only sleep can make the voices shut up. No need to worry about tomorrow. There will be no more pain tomorrow.
Eyes close. Fists unclench.
