Dream holiday (Five minutes freewrite)
Miguel was already there, waiting under the blue umbrellas, two cocktails on the table. His eyes lit up when he saw her and he kissed her firmly on the lips. Who cares what people say?
Sometimes, Miguel showed up while she was already at the pool bar, sipping a drink, playfully splashing the water with her elegant splendidly manicured fingers. He was so good at the seduction game, circling the pool searching for a chair and all the while spying on her out of the corner of his dark eyes.
'Mind if I join you?' he said as he slipped into the water.
She was the woman he'd been waiting for all of his life, he'd dreamed of her, he'd always known he was meant to be with a woman named Maria - of course, he wouldn't call her Mary.
Jim didn't mind that she wouldn't come with him to explore the little Spanish fishing towns. 'A couple of weeks in the sun will do wonders for your health. You always look ten years younger', he'd say, before leaving in the morning.
The days spent with Miguel did do wonders, she felt happier than she'd been in decades. He was romantic and tender and smart. And the sex, that was wild. Nothing like the muffled Saturday night romps with Jim.
When the holiday came to an end, Jim was understanding. He knew it wouldn't be right to take her away from Miguel. He could see their love was fated and out of this world. They'd part as friends. She promised she'd be in touch with him and the kids.
Jim knew Mary would be pissed when he didn't get the bonus and the trip to Spain was off. She'd been out of sorts and mopping around for some time, but he didn't expect she'd snap like that. Mary did not shout or swear. She just stood there in the kitchen smashing plates one by one. Her knuckles turned white when she'd grab another plate, like she wanted to break it with her bare hands. She wasn't aiming at him, she didn't even look at him, her eyes staring in the distance, big fat tears running down her face.
When she was done with the plates on the counter, she turned her attention to the drawers, randomly selecting things to throw on the floor. Jim was scared she'd soon get to the knives, so he grabbed by the arms and pulled her outside.
He held her shivering body in his arms until the ambulance came. She didn't resist.

Nice one Marie - a real, heartbreaking, domestic drama. That last scene in particular is so powerful! When they go for the knives, its always time to call the authorities :/
You always key up the emotion successfully. I felt this sad tension. Good writing.
