What are Larry and Herb up to? - Weekend - Freewrite
This is a freewrite using 3 prompts and a bonus prompt
- Prompt 1: There were 17 cats living in Larry's basement

- Prompt 3: the way Herb defrosted the refrigerator

There were 17 cats living in Larry's basement and I have no idea what he is going to do with all those cats. They probably all have fleas as well and I really don’t like fleas.
Actually, right now, today, I really don’t like anybody. Especially not that Larry with his 17 cats in the basement.
If they all stayed in the basement, it wouldn’t be much of a problem for me. Because I don’t ever have to go there and the basement is downwind from me. So, even if Larry is not taking care of the cats, I wouldn’t have to smell anything.
But Larry doesn’t keep them in the basement. He lets them out and they come over into my yard. They think it is a litter box for them.
And that all birds and lizards are there for them to eat.
I really don’t like Larry’s 17 cats to use my yard as a litter box. I hate the smell of cat pee and don’t want to find cat poop when I did in the soil.
As far as I am concerned, Larry should keep his stinking cats in his basement at all times. That really would be the best for all of us. Him, me and the cats.
I have been thinking of buying a gun.
Don’t know if I should though. On Tuesday, she asked me the most peculiar question. She is Larry’s girlfriend of course.
I don’t even know why he would have a girlfriend with 17 cats as company already. Or to be more precise, I don’t know why she wants to put up with Larry and all his junk in the basement.
So, she asked me if I would kill a man. That is a peculiar question from someone I don’t even know. Actually, maybe from anybody. It wasn’t like we talked about people who had eaten each other to survive a disaster. Like a crash of an airplane in the mountains - there is a true story about that. And I guess eating each other is a misconception since only the eater was surviving. Only one.
So, if I buy a gun and tomorrow Larry is dead - that might look bad for me. Especially since Herb has been living in our back house lately. I have been watching him watch Larry and the way Herb defrosted the refrigerator is making me suspicious.
It feels like he is getting ready for something. What, I don’t know. But I have seen what people do with bodies they want to hide.
You know, like on NCIS, they have found a missing person in the freezer a few times already. What is he trying to hide, that Herb? I don’t trust him at all.
Why did I allow these strange guys to move in here? They offered me triple the rent I was able to get before.
But what are they up to?
Should I be worried?

I can NOT imagine! Living with my daughter and her 4 cats is about to drive me out of my mind. Come to think of it, I wish we had a basement. :)
Your story is so much more cohesive than mine felt... I don't know how you do it! I would think you had just decided to write a short story! Bravo!!
Thank you! Some days, it flows - others - nothing much. But that is part of the exercise. Maybe my mind has a harder time to stick with a preformed idea than to just go off into the wild :)
We're our own worst critics sometimes! I totally feel you on the 'some days, it flows - others - nothing much." But this exercise is STILL phenomenal.

My landlady has close to the 17 cats and they live real close by. I love her to death, but she said her boyfriend started feeding those Neighborhood Cats and now they all hang around. They aren't neutered or spayed so they keep reproducing. There's really nothing I can do about it although I've gently suggested getting the cats fixed to stop making more babies. They keep the cats on the back porch and they feed them outside. They wander around here and I make sure that my cat stays safely indoors. One of them is a scruffy looking male cat and I know that he would get into it with my declawed Newt.
As for Herb... He sounds like a real shady character and I would definitely keep some locks on the door and be careful. Who pays triple the rent for nothing, right? Great job.
