The Lady in the Chair

The benevolent dragon landed at her feet and just breathed out a little cloud of fire. She couldn't help herself. When her heart was filled with joy, a little bit of fire escaped ever so often. But the lady, sitting in the wicker chair on her sunny porch knew that about her friend Lilith - and she always had some water ready to eradicate any fire that might be caused by those little spurts of joy.
A fire was nothing, a risk well worth taking when it came to dragon visits. Not everyone has that privilege in their life. As a matter of fact, there are many that truly believe that dragons do not exist outside of books and movies. Oh, the poor fools. If only they knew!!!
But the lady in the chair was not about to tell anyone in the world about her friend, the benevolent dragon, a girl, well, maybe a young woman, her Lilith that came to visit her.
She knew that it is special when a dragon chooses you to come and show herself. It is even more special when that dragon comes often. Almost every morning, after she made her first cup of coffee and goes to her favorite spot, Lilith appears and they have the best conversations. There are days when the lady in the chair is so very sad. Maybe she had read the newspaper or listened to the news and heard about another terrible thing going on in the world.
Then Lilith spits a little bit of fire and reassures her that everything will be fine. As long as there are people who can see dragons, there will be people who will find the solution and life as we know it - or life as we can't even imagine it now, will continue.
