Pitiful - Or Not

I am free, she whispered to herself first thing in the morning.
A smile slowly spread over her lips all the way to her ears by the time her eyes had opened.
I am free!
This time, she said it a bit louder. After all, there was nobody who could hear or see her. But the beautiful part was that she didn't care. If there were thousands in her space if there were thousands who could hear her - or see her - she was ready to scream it from the top of the rooftops!
I AM FREE
How, how long did it take to be free?
exactly 50 years.
She lived in a society where age was not a good thing. Before, in the olden days, she had heard so much about that the older a person got, the more they were rising in importance. They commanded respect in the eyes of the others.
"let's talk to the elders - they know." Or even "we all need to respect our elders."
She had read about that in the old forgotten library which held things they called books in the old language. All of them were written in that language long forgotten by most.
she had learned it. Learned it when she spent hours in that old room which once must have seemed big to whoever it was who used to go there.
Her friends thought that she was pitiful to go to places of no relevance instead of trying to fit the mold. After all, one could only advance if there were no signs of being odd or different.
Just by going to this place, she was doomed to stay in this place that lacked the many features fully adjusted Vogarians enjoyed. Once accepted, no one had to do any kind of work anymore - not even walk.
What could be better, they said, as they tried to fit the mold.
She had always been different. She liked to walk. She liked to explore what the old culture had left behind and found it easy to learn the language.
One after another of the batch of newbies that had been dropped into this space had made it. Or, as she thought, had forfeited their lives and their freedom.
If you still didn't fit the mold at fifty - nobody cared anymore and let you be. As a matter of fact, the had abandoned this drop since so many had taken a long time to finally fit the mold.
Now, she was free. Free to be who she wanted to be. She wasn't sure yet who that will be, but she already knew that she loved her.

Aww. I want to celebrate her freedom too!!! 💓 I like the last line of not knowing who she is going to be, but she already loved her :)

My 30s were better than my 20s, which in turn was way better than my teens. Things are trending the right way ... your story is very encouraging :-)

I am happy that it is encouraging. I do think the more we don't care what others think - the happier we are with ourselves.

Definitely not pitiful!! 💖
