It started with the flowers.
One day of June, at the end of the most gorgeous spring ever. Every tree, every bush, hedge, or patch of grass, even the cacti were full of big, colored flowers who didn't lose petals and didn't wither. The greenhouses did roaring trades, the farmers were foretasting a great harvest. Bees and ants did a little troubles, 'cause they had a big boom in numbers too, due to the plenty of nectar and lymph, but in general everyone was happy with this unespected flourishing.
All this vegetal abundance was rustling at the slightest gust of wind, with a sound who could be heared everywhere, a sound so persistent that some people began to have hallucinations about whispering voices from the flowers.
Cases of this phenomenon rose up during June, and July. Some more sensibile people had to be sedated because of a hysterical attack, in which they screamed nonsense. In those ravings there was a common pattern: all the subjects made reference to an unknown menace; "They're awakening, they're coming for us..." Psychiatric opinion was that the "epidemic" was spread by emulation from the media exposure of the first cases.
However, by the begin of August, the experts and the public opinion were concerned about that neverending flowering, mostly because fruits wasn't developing. All the plants seemed stuck in an eternal springtime. Every research lab in botany and biology was put to work for a solution, meanwhile "Flower Madness" spread everywhere.
Was at that point that the first body was discovered. An old lady with the hobby of gardening was found dead in her glasshouse, with the most gorgeous and beautiful peonies ever growing all over the body. The roots enveloped all the internal organs...

Flower Madness excerpt
"everyone was happy with this unexpected flourishing." (marcorricardi,2017)

I enjoyed reading your piece. What a strangely divine and somewhat terrifying thought. To leave the world behind and be laid to rest in a bed of flowers.
I followed you and thank you for sharing.
