Mice

Today was an important day in The Animal Kingdom. The Lion who had been the King as long as any animal could remember was being challenged. The King had humoured the contender, and had called on this gathering to present his merits on why governance should change.

"Animals of Land, Sea and Sky. I am Salvatore, the voice of Mice. We have been, over the years proved over and over again, that we have what it takes to rule The Kingdom. From the beginning of time, we have been nimble, fast and smart."

"My great, great, grandfather was the only one who was brave enough to make it to the top of the clock and back down again when it struck 1. He was the fastest in his time and yet was never given a chance to lead. And again, remember the 3 blind mice? Blind they may have been, but when attacked, they stood up for justice and fought a good fight!"

"You already know of Jerry, who always outwitted Tom. And how about Stewart Little, who was adopted by the humans. That tells you we are adaptable and can be successfully accepted by any kind and that includes you. And then there's Remy... who cooked the greatest Ratatouille in all of France? We can do anything we set our mind to. "

"When the Jade Emperor was in search of guards and called upon The Animal Kingdom for the best, we were summoned. We beat 11 other animals including the Tiger, Rabbit, Horse and even the mystical Dragon. We are capable of leading each and every one of you, if only you give us the chance. "

"When they moved our cheese, we learnt to survive. We are resilient, and this is what we will bring to the leadership of the mice, with me Salvatore leading the greatest army the world has ever seen. "

"What about the Pied Piper? He managed to lure you with only the pipe!" a voice in the crowd shouted.

"That is true! But that's a story you need to hear today. He led us to water and the town thought he had succeeded in drowning us, but we can swim."

The animals started whispering to each other. As the Lion sat regally on his thrown, convinced that the animals would know who to choose without a doubt. He roared, to silence the buzz that was getting louder. "It is time to choose, your leader! Will you choose this rodent over me, The Mighty Lion?"

Another day another prompt, another Free Write! This is where you are allowed to frolic in the happiest place or traverse into the darkest corners of your mind and then share it. It can be fact, it can be fiction, as long as they are your words!!
