Appetite

The family tried everything. They had taken her to see many doctors, dieticians, shamans but nothing eased their mind. Now that she was an adult, and a healthy one, it is what it was. And besides, it was her appetite that paid the bills. Her dtube channel had been Top 10 channels viewed for some time nowl. All she did was eat and eat and her followers seemed to love it. Her rewards most times hit over 1,000 SBD.

Today, she was part of a different kind of challenge. And even though there was some contention from the other participants in regards to fairness, there were no grounds. Just because they knew what she was capable of wasn't reason enough to disqualify her. She had to give them credit for trying to be No. 1, even if it was a coward's way.

She had been in many challenges before, and won most of them. She had guzzled a beer barrel in under 20 seconds. She had eaten 112 hotdogs in under a minute. It has been a crazy ride and even when she signed up for this challenge, she knew she had been in training all her life. She would set a record in the inaugural Foodie Eat-a-ton.

It wasn't a marathon for the weak stomached. Only the brave and the fast would pull through. Every km of the 42kms, there was a food station. You ran or walked, stopped at each station and ate exotic or popular foods from around the world. Station 28 had eggs that were semi formed. There were feathers and she was sure she felt a beak in there somewhere, and you had to eat 5 of those. Most gave up at that station. Some throwing up even before they had put it in their mouth.

She would only admit this to herself, she was feeling the strain catching up but she was so close to the finish line. She could see it, the flags waving in the wind, the crowd screaming...her footsteps like thunder in her ears. In her head she kept repeating, Don't throw up! Don't throw up! because that would be a disqualification. 6 more steps. She will go down in history as the fastest and meanest Eating Machine. 3 more steps. People were reaching out for her, urging her, cheering her.

Someone brushed her as she took her 2nd last step. She turned to look and that broke her momentum as he crossed the finish line a split second before she did.

Another day another prompt, another Free Write! This is where you are allowed to frolic in the happiest place or traverse into the darkest corners of your mind and then share it. It can be fact, it can be fiction, as long as they are your words!!
