5-Minute Freewrite Prompt: I Floss My Tears
I Floss My Tears
Jane drew closer to the mirror. I don’t think he’ll notice. She said to herself.
Alright, time to get back to dinner. She was on a date, the first date to be exact!
Andy was the shy guy at school she wanted to go out with. Finally, after months of waiting, he had summoned enough courage to ask her out. Now they were in a fancy restaurant. So far the date had been going fine. A little joke here, talking there and a few touchy moments in between. Now it was time for dinner.
Jane sat down in front of Andy then they started to eat. Andy picked up the steak and placed it behind his neck, this was where the mouth is usually located, at least for the kind. Jane helped herself to a big chunk of chicken. You could hear the sound coming from their backs as bone crushed between teeth like a grinding machine.
They stared at each other with sparkling eyes, all smiles.
People were now taking notice, with faces that looked mortified that the kind could eat so brazenly and without etiquette at all. These reactions were not a shock since the kind looked normal up front.
For some reason, Jane and Andy found the attention they were attracting funny. They were now laughing so uncontrollably that tears started to well up. Jane tried her best to compose herself.
After some time, they both calmed down. Laughing and crying was over. Now it was time to floss the tears, pearl-like threads excreted by the glands around the mouth, away.

I love where you took this!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the Freewriters!!
Thank you. It's a fun experience I plan to revisit.
I love that you took this literally!! I think it's so exciting that one prompt sparks so much creativity! Was this your first freewrite?
Thank you! It's my 4th attempt. The first was a disaster I prefer to keep to myself.
Haha, keep going!
Well I wasn't expecting that. Good story.
Thank you!
The kind is an interesting race to explore more :)
I'd have to prepare my gear for that exploration first. ;)
I like what you did there - changing the world to fit the prompt, rather than making the prompt fit the world. Very clever!

I almost fell outta my seat lol!
I'm glad you liked it. 😊
For a moment I thought Andy was a monster. Then it turned out Jane was too.
And yes, anything that is unlike us is a "monster", isn't that how humanity works? That was a surprise :)
I would say this, that Jane does not seem to consider her own position, Andy is the shy one, yet she waited for him to ask her out, what does it say of her? :)
It speaks of the culture I live in. It might also mean Jane herself was not brave enough to ask him out.
