No one knew how the selection was made. It would come to you on that same mirror that you see everyday in your chamber. That same mirror that would show you the stars outside this spaceship. All we knew was that these were the rules for survival.

At the beginning, people would protest, but whoever did would be punished by having their tokens stripped from them. Without any tokens, how would one live on this spaceship. No one would be willing to give their tokens away as those who did would also be punished by the same rules. As such, all followed the rules without questioning.

Of course, this did not apply to children below 12 years of age but once they turned 13 on their birthday, they would be subjected to the same rules as all other adults. Many children did not survive their first two years and eventually many children died. The system as we call them realized that if there was no children, then there would be no future for anyone of us. After much debate, they decided to raise the age limit to 18 in order to give these children a chance to survive. But, that would mean that the adults have lower chances of survival.

PING ! PING ! PING !

The sound of the alarm piercing threw our ears followed by the red alert system on. That meant the game is on and that all of us are required to go to the tournament hall to witness the next battle.
